JIB photos

I ended up with quite a few photo ops this year, mainly thanks to my birthday photos.  Whereas last year I was really struggling for photo pose inspiration across the cons I went to, and ended up with about fifty seven hugs (not complaining, mind), this year I was determined to expend a bit of brain power, and end up with some more diverse pictures.  Thanks also to the guys who were really entering the spirit of the occasion, and so I ended up with some great fun pictures!

So, here goes:

First picture was with Mark Sheppard (one of my birthday photos), and I decided to start gently, especially as I know Mark's not big on poses!

Warning: Image heavy post!

So that was another Jus in Bello.  A fabulous time again with great people in the eternal city! I never stop being grateful that I have the opportunity to do this every year and with such great friends!

The adventure started on Thursday last week when I flew into Rome, and undertook that familiar trek through the airport to the Hilton hotel.  It really does feel like coming to a second home!

Thursday was a time for us to all start converging on the hotel at various times and from various directions, and then Friday was time to chill and catch up in the morning before festivities began in the afternoon.

It's really the Saturday morning of JIB when madness descends - that's when J2 turn up and forget the fall of Rome - this is the fall of a whole room of fangirls!

So as well a J2 photos and J2 autographs , I was lucky enough to snag a Jensen meet and greet this year.  I told him about June and how the Spn fandom helped her and he was really moved.  He said that it had always been a way that he and Jared kept themselves in check by saying 'what we're doing is important, but it's not THAT important, we're not curing cancer'.  However, after hearing stories like June's before, and seeing for himself the positive effects of the Spn fandom, they changed that to 'we're not curing cancer, but perhaps we're indirectly giving people some support and positivity to fight it better.'

As always, it was a great, well thought out reply!

This JIBcon was shaping up to be very different to those gone before, mainly because of Misha's absence, but in the interests of turning a negative into a positive, we thought, 'well that's going to shake up the dynamic a bit', and it really did.  The final panel, which would ordinarily be Jensen and Misha was Jensen and Richard with a little Jared and Rob thrown in.  And it was pure, pure anarchy.  Laugh out loud ridiculousness from beginning to end!  If you get the chance to watch it on Youtube, do - it was fabulous madness!

The addition of Jojo and Drake from the Winchesters was another plus - they're quickly establishing themselves as convention darlings.  But as always, the main draw was each other.

Along with amberdreamsheavenli24stellamiradean_hugs_sammy, and our other non-LJ friends, Wendy, Natalie, Chris, Monica and many others, this was a classic weekend.

There have been three JIBs in quick succession thanks to the catch up from Covid, so it could be reasonable to assume the energy and enthusiasm is starting to wane.  However, at this JIBcon, it seemed the exact opposit was true.  The positive energy of this weekend was palpable, and when JIBcon 2024 was announced, there was a stampede to pre-register.

As always, Jensen and Jared were adorable, and gave so generously of themselves for everyone at the convention, and from my own personal point of view, I had a couple of lovely one-on-one exchanges with Jensen that made my little fangirl heart flutter!

When I approached Jensen for my fourth photo with him, he grinned and winked at me, and I just laughed and said, "yep, me again - the bad penny!"
Jensen put his arm around me and said, "oh no, a good penny.  A shiny penny!"  Yes, OK, I kind of evaporated on the spot, so sue me!

At the Monday concert, it was a great event at a fab venue, and right at the end, Jensen et al, sang Hallelujah (the Leonard Cohen song).  The Monday is always an emotional night anyway because it's the last night before we all go our separate ways, but with that song being sung - by Jensen no less, at the end of it, eveyone sitting at our table - me included - was in floods!

After I had composed myself, I went to say thanks to Daniela, the organiser, and I stepped back from giving her a hug, Jensen walked right toward me.  He grinned again, and I blurted out 'that was fabulous - you made me cry!"  To my utter shock, he came over and took me by both hands and thanked me for coming!

Yep, and I evaporated again.  I seem to have spent a lot of this weekend in a gaseous state.  Or maybe just in a state!

So in summary, it was another fabulous JIBcon.  Rome was gorgeous, Jared and Jensen were gorgeous, all my JIBcon lovelies were gorgeous...

I can't wait to do it again next year!

I've just spent a few wonderful days in Rome at Jus in Bello 13.  Fabulous friends and our wonderful cast made it another awesome weekend, and I'll post a lot more later (probably at the weekend).

However, just to kick things off, here is my autographed artwork from the event.

This one was a long time coming!

Originally planned for May 2020, the pass was booked in Summer 2019.  Five times postponed, there were times when all of us thought that it would never happen.  But thanks to the perseverence of Daniela and the JIB team, it did.

There were a couple of last minute cancellations - Karl Urban was due to be there, but had to cry off, and Tom Ellis too, but Daniela managed to secure a couple late replacements, including Drake Rodgers and Jojo Fleites from 'The Winchesters'.

A few of us flew in a day early so that we could get a headstart on the socialising, and so on our first full day, four of us headed off to Ostia which is a ruined city which used to be Rome's main port.  It was great wandering around and having a leisurely catch up before the madness of the next few days began!

The convention itself began on Thursday with JIBLand, the multi-fandom segment of JIB, and that was the day we first met Drake and Jojo.  They quickly established themselves as two convention darlings, and have certainly made me want to go back and rewatch the Winchesters (I'm up to episode 6).  Also on the first day we had the return of Ricky Whittle from American Gods, Alexander Vlahos from Versailles and David Ramsay from Arrow.  We also knew that Ricky Whittle was a bit of a nutter who adores JIB, but paired with Alexander, who takes being a nutter to a whole new level, their panels were absolute hilarious bedlam.

Here are my Mugshots from the first couple of days

On the Monday of our stay in Rome, we would normally be getting ready or Jason Manns' concert in the evening.  However, due to the cancellations, and Jensen's need to be on his way home on Monday, the concert was canelled, so this left us witth a whole day to spend in beautiful Roma.  We included tifachingheavenli24amberdreamsdean_hugs_sammyedina_clouds128, and stellamira

We decided to just make the most of our day, and as well as taking in the best sights, we were also going to have a bit of a homage to our favourite gelataria.

We started the day around midday, and headed  straight for the Pantheon.  Firstly because it's an amazing place...

Well, it was a long time coming, but boy, was it worth the wait!

When I and my good buddy edina_clouds128 who I travelled with, arrived at the Rome Airport Hilton on Thursday morning, I just burst into tears. I was so overwhelmend with emotion, and when Daniela (the JIB organiser) walked past and saw me, we just hugged and bawled together!

I'm just checking in after a week's absence to let you know that any rumours of my demise are greatly exaggerated.  I'm still alive and kicking and here in beautiful Roma ruminating on the end of another wonderful JIBcon.

Full write-up and pics to come, but I can say here and now that it's been an amazing rollercoaster of emotions - nearly all good, mostly revolving around catching up with friends old and new ... the new including the wonderful tifaching who was one of the first people to welcome me to Livejournal back in 2010/2011, and as such is one of my longest-standing buddies in fandom, so to actually get to hug this gorgeous lady for the very first time was magical!

And there was Jensen.  LOTS of Jensen...

So just to prolong the JIB mood, here's a (rather poor quality) sneaky peek at a couple of my photo ops!  :)

I'm getting kind of ridiculously excited that the thrice (or possibly four times) postponed Jus in Bello 12 is only three weeks away!

I'm gradually starting to prepare a few things and one of those things is artwork for the autographs.

I've just finished this one this evening - hence the crappy photo, I haven't had a chance to scan it yet.  Ruth is a guest at JIB for the first time, and I couldn't resist a pic of her as the beautiful Queen of Hell!

May is the month that I've headed off to Rome over the last eight years to meet up with my gorgeous international group of girlies, and the delectable cast of Supernatural. Thanks to Covid, this is now the second May we haven't been able to meet up, and Facebook has been tormenting me with beautiful memories over the last couple of weeks. So I thought I'd pull together a handful of favourite memories to try to ease the disappointment.

It ended up being rather a large handful!

Yes, I know this is totally first world probelms, but please indulge me!!

After the madness of 2018, I was expecting 2019 to be a much quieter, less busy year.

And of course, I was hopelessly, gloriously wrong about that!

There may not have been travels to Iceland and broken limbs to contend with, but there were six cons, European travels, lots of art, lots of writing and, yes, beautiful fandom madness!

I got my J2 and JenMish photos and JIB next year.

So I'll get my Jensen squeeze after all.  Right now, I'm wearing a big grin, just like this but nowhere near as pretty ...

So, it's a quiet weekend.

Mr D has gone down to Devon for the weekend to catch up with some friends, so I have the house to myself, and I've been taking advantage of the time to do a few chores, and make a start on a commission of two miniature yorkshire terriers.

You know how every now and again, you embark on a creative job - art work or fic or video or whatever, and you just don't feel it?  This is me with this picture.  I'm poncing around with it for half an hour, then getting up to do something, then sitting down again... I don't know why, this one just hasn't grabbed me. The muse isn't co-operating and I can't lose myself in it at the moment.  But, it's work; it's money, and I should be grateful for that.

In other news, Jus in Bello J2M double photo ops were released yesterday.  Now, Jus in Bello has always been crazy mad when it comes to getting passes and photo ops, but this year it seems to have gone nuclear!  Perhaps people think that because the show's coming to an end JIB will too - and of couse, that's very possible - and so everyone is just going all out for it.

The J2M single photo ops were released three weeks ago and the Jensen ones were all snapped up within the first second that they were released.  That's right, you read that correctly; the first SECOND.

Jared's and Misha's all went very shortly afterward.  Unfortunately, I missed out on a Jensen single which I was gutted about, (soneone sent the request  for me as I was away from home that day, and they sent it bang on time, but it arrived just a nanosecond too late) but I did manage to get hold of a Jared and Misha op, so it's not all bad.

That's why I'm so hoping I'll get my hands on a double op - I've requested two - a J2 and a Jensen&Misha.  Again, the organiser was overwhelmed with emails and they were all snapped up within a second or two.  The lovely [livejournal.com profile] herminekurotowa sent my mail for me because I just don't trust my internet speed, and we've got the email to say that it arrived ok.  The organiser tweeted last night to say that all photo ops were assigned and there were still over 200 emails left!!

Apparently, they're going to contact the people who didn't get anything later today, and maybe into tomorrow, so if I don't get one of those emails, then I've got at least one of what I requested, and I will get my Jensen squeeze after all!

So at the moment, I'm glancing at my email like it's a rabid animal, and every time an email pings up, I get a little palpitation.  If I haven't got an email by the time the organiser tweets that all unlucky people have been contacted - then I can breathe again!

Honestly, the things I do for those boys!!

Ultimately, I know I'm lucky to be going to JIB at all so this is totally a first world problem - don't waste any sympathy on me! :D

But anyway, here's some gorgeous dorky boys, because you all deserve it!!

*hugs*

Okay, before I tell this story, I need to give a little bit of background.

I'm sure most of you are aware that I produce artwork of Supernatural characters and take them to the cons for signing by the actors.

Thie pictures are mounted up to the same size - 12" x 10", and when I travel with them, I take offcuts of rigid cardboard cut to 12" x 10" to reinforce the pictures in transit, and to protect them from smudging while I'm carrying them around.

Okay, that's the boring bit!

The interesting bit )

Once again Jus in Bello was a mad and wonderful week in beautiful Roma.  The conventon is great, and obviously it's a blast seeing our boys again, but for me, one of the highlights is meeting up with all my gorgeous buddies from all over Europe.  They included [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams, [livejournal.com profile] herminekurotowa, [livejournal.com profile] xlittleangx, [livejournal.com profile] stellamira, [livejournal.com profile] dean_hugs_sammy, [livejournal.com profile] sillie82, [livejournal.com profile] heavenli24 to name but a few

It took a couple of days for us all to arrive from our various starting points, and so as usual, the first two days, Wednesday and Thursday at JIBland were fairly leisurely.  From a personal point of view, I didn't have any photos for JIBland, so I sat in on a few panels, and used the time for catching up with long lost friends.

On Wednesday evening, a group of us decided to reacquaint ourselves with Rome, and headed out for a meal in a nice little bistro just beside the pantheon.  Before we left, the opportunity for a great photo presented itself ... partcularly as this year was the 10th anniversary of JIB.

Fun and Larks in Roma (long picture post!) )

Italian air workers are on strike today, and loads of flights out of Italy are being cancelled.  So, many of my JIBcon buddies have had to find an extra nights accommodation because they now can't fly home until tomorrow.  :(

My flight this afternoon is still listed on the British Airways website as being on time, so I'm keeping everything crossed.  It's gonna be a loooong day!

Wish me luck, gang!   :)

In the meantime here are some sleepy boys ably demonstrating what I feel like doing ...
*politely removes Jason Manns and inserts self*

So, it's the day after JIB again, and here I am, chilling at the hotel bar - same table, same post-con blues as previous years.

JIB has always been magical, but there was an extra layer to the magic this year - as well as being JIB's 10th anniversary, the knowledge that we are now entering show's final year gave it a distinctly bittersweet edge, I believe even our boys felt it - there was just the merest touch of melancholy in some of their panels.

But, that aside, we have all enjoyed another fabulous JIBCON, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.  It's been great to catch up with friends from near and far, and once again spend time with our gorgeous guys.

Some personal highlights for me (for which I will go into more detail in after I get home)

  • Dining with dear friends in the shadow of the Pantheon

  • Asking Adam Fergus a question in his panel

  • A close encounter in the queue for Jared's autograph whiich I will NEVER forget

  • And my Jared photo op which will forever be one of the best I have ever had  XD

And the best news is, JIB 10 WON'T BE THE LAST JIB!!!  Jensen has somehow managed to wrap Daniela, JIB organiser, round his little finger at least one more time, there were a lot of happy tears when that was announced!

So, I've missed you guys loads, and can't wait to dive back into the Lj waters with you all.   I will post pictures and updates once I'm back home with access to my scanner - I fly home tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of my weekend, with three random dudes I happened across ...

Hey!
Just dropping by to let you lovelies all know that I'm still alive here in the madness that is Jus in Bello.
Having a wonderful time and of course, today was our first exposure to J2M for the weekend, so you could cut through the oestrogen in the air with a knife.
I've had a few photos so far, and I like them all, but a word of warning, I nearly burst something when I first saw my Jared pic!!!
He has excelled himself 🤣🤣🤣
dizzojay: (Dean)
The preparation for Jus in Bello has begun ...
dizzojay: (Dean)
I can't believe that on Tuesday, I head off to Rome for Jus in Bello convention again.  How has it been a whole year???  I'm so excited as I always am; excited to catch up with J2M again and excited to catch up with a horde of British and European buddies including [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams, [livejournal.com profile] xlittleangx, [livejournal.com profile] herminekurotowa, [livejournal.com profile] sillie82, [livejournal.com profile] stellamira, [livejournal.com profile] sinfulslasher, [livejournal.com profile] dean_hugs_sammy, and  [livejournal.com profile] heavenli24, just for starters!

I can't believe that this will be my seventh JIB - my first was 2013, and I've attended every year since then.  I have to accept the fact that there's a very real possibility this may be our last JIB, with it being the 10th anniversary JIB, as well as being the last Supernatural Hellatus.  But who knows, I could well be wrong - I'd be delighted to be proved wrong in this case!!

But, if it is the last JIB, yes it will be sad - an ending of something magical, but I will also always be thankful of the treasured memories and international friendships it has blessed me with.

So, just for jolly, here are seven wonderful memories from seven years of Jus In Bello!
