Wow, 2017 already!  Because 2016 is so last year ...

It was a funny old year.  From a personal point of view, the main change this year was that, in the spring, I got myself a shiny new job where I'm feeling valued and appreciated, and enjoying a social life unlike anything I ever experienced in 13 years in the charity sector! From a fandom point of view, it's been another fantastic year.  I've attended three conventions, had Jensen take a photo of my artwork, took part in GISHWHES, and just generally celebrated the fact that I am lucky enough to be a part of this amazing and fantastic group of people!

I met even more of you in person, and that was special, so very special to be able to finally enjoy real hugs as opposed to virtual hugs!

So here it is, because I did it last year and it was fun to do, my fandom review of 2016!

Okay, so this is the one thing I'm not proud of! In 2016, I only wrote 21,613 words.  I've only counted story words, and that's the lowest number of words I've written in one full year since I've been in fandom.  My writing muse has disowned me completely, and the awkward little tart is showing no signs of returning.  I think longer work hours and a busy life generally has gone some way to killing my inspiration, but I live in hope that she'll come back one day!.

Anyhow, that said, here's the fun stuff ... )

So, it came and it went.  Another fabulous weekend of Supernatural fun and madness with great friends and the awesome cast of our great little show.

The weekend started on Friday after a typical scummy Friday afternoon drive up to Birmingham that should have taken two and a half hours, but took four instead, so the Hilton was a very welcome sight indeed when I finally turned up.

I was lucky enough to get tickets for a meet and greet with all the guests on the Friday evening.  That's always a great time to hae a good chat with them in a small intimate group.  There were about eight of us in my group, all sitting in a circle, making it feel a bit like group therapy.  (A fangirl group therapy ... sheesh!  Could you imagine? Who'd be a fly on the wall for that!!)

And, as great minds think alike, Theo Devaney turned up to our group and sat down, and his first words were, "Hello, I'm Theo and I've been an alcoholic for about (here he glanced at his glass) three hours!"

All the guests were great, as always; engaging and friendly, and happy to be there.  Most of them, such as DJ Qualls, Seb Roche, Travis Aaron Wade, Travis Wester, Theo Devaney, Adam Rose and AJ Buckley,  I'd met before and I was really touched that Travis Aaron Wade remembered me from JiB.

There were also some new faces at this con, Corin Nemec, Jessica Heafey and Lisa Berry.  Corin was probably the biggeest surprise for me.  I remember having seen Corin in two shows, Supernatural and Stephen King's 'the Stand'.  In both of those shows he played characters who both had a massive chip on their shoulder and were generaally pretty obnoxious.  Rightly or wrongly, that coloured my view of the actor, and I was pretty blah about meeting him.  How wrong I was, he was charming, funny and an absolute delight to meet; I've never been so happy to be wrong!

Then there was Lisa Berry.  Lisa plays Billie the Reaper and she was pure sunshine!  It was her first con, and she was so excited and happy to be there, I swear she was bouncing around and smiling the whole time.  I asked her, as it was her first con, if she had seen footage of previous cons and got an idea of what went on.  She said that someone had taken her to Pascon as an attendee, and that's when she admitted she was a total fangirl, so she was blown away by the whole event.  When she was actually invited to this con as a  bonafide guest, and especially as it was her first time in the UK, she was thrilled to bits!

Saturday was my photo day, so gird your loins, here are the mugshots ...

Day 56 and 57: It's been a fabulous, crazy, wonderful weekend at Asylum 17.

All I can say is that all the guests were charming, as always.  Some, like Sebastian Roche, Theo Devaney, Adam Rose, Tyler Johnson, DJ Qualls, Travis Wester, Travis Aaron Wade and AJ Buckley, I've met before, but I've never met Corin Nemec before and Jessica Heafey and Lisa Berry have never attended a con before, so it was lovely to see some new faces.

I'll post some thoughts and some pictures over the next couple of days as I catch up with things, but in the meantime, here's a taster of the general mood ...

What a weekend! )

So, here's a rundown of my happy morning so far ...

7.00 am - wake up when Mr D gets up for work
7.00 and 4 seconds - reach for phone.  Surf net for a bit, seek out spoilers and juicy pictures from latest episode
7.30 am - get up
7.31 am - coffee
7.45 am - start work on finishing portrait of pissed-off scotsman.  Scan and mount said scotsman.  Don't be rude!
8.45 am - start packing
8.50 am - rooting through cupboards looking for favourite flashing demon horns
8.55 am - continue packing, more coffee
9.05 am - rooting through drawers looking for favourite 'they ate my tailor' pendant
9.15 am - finish packing
9.20 am - short chill out with breakfast and LJ before shower and usual pre-con ritual of deciding which of my twelve million (or so it seems at that point) Supernatural T-shirts I'm going to wear today.

Who says adulthood has to be dull?

Hitting the road for Asylum 17 in about 3 hours ... in the meantime, here's aforementioned portrait of pissed-off scotsman.
