While I was away this weekend busy arting on the Isle of Wight (more on that soon), Mr D was taking advantage of the lovely weather and tinkering with his bike in the garden. It seemed that he found himself a little helping hand (paw)...

27 years ago today, this happened!
I was 26 when we got married (Mr D was 25), so we have officially been married over half our lives!

Well that was another GISH.

They come and go, and this time I took part in a different team alongside [livejournal.com profile] tifaching and [livejournal.com profile] blackrabbit42.  We've talked about collaborating for years, and finally got around to doing it this time!

We had a good productive week with a lot of fun and hard work by everyone on the team.  So, without further ado, here are my efforts (in no particular order):

You’ve heard of Dad Jokes. Tell a Dadaist joke.
(When I put my name down for tis one, Mr D jumped at the chance of being involved!)

(if anyone isn't familiar with the term 'dada' or 'dadaist', it's an early-20th-century international movement in art, literature, music, and film, repudiating and mocking artistic and social conventions and emphasizing the illogical and absurd.

It's almost bunny time!

This is our last pre-bunny weekend, so we went out on Saturday shopping for provisions.  It's going to be a voyage of discovery, to see what works best and what they like best, but for now, we've been out and about and ended up with two bales of dust-free meadow hay, some specially formulated grass pellets for young rabbits and a bag of wood pellets for their litter box.  The fun part is going to be experimenting with what fruit and veggies they like, but those can come from the local supermarket next week!

This afternoon we did the last piece of work on the rabbit-proofing.  It was the bit we've been putting off because we new it was going to be fiddly and laborious - fitting trunking along the skirting board to cover up the wires that ran along that wall.

Bless him, Mr D did all the work because I'm too cack-handed to be trusted with delicate wires and cables, but it's all done now, and looks so much neater than it did before!

As an aside, If you know anyone who thinks rabbits are easy, low-maintenance pets, please show them this picture...

Summer is finally upon us here in the UK, so Mr D and I have been spending large parts of the day out in the garden over this week.

We have a bird feeding station in the garden which gives us enormous amounts of entertaiment, and not just from feathered friends; we have a healthy population of squirrels that pay us visits most days; we know of at least three separate individuals, but they all have one thing in common...

They all make eating a few nuts look like Cirque du Soleil.

Welcome to Cirque du Squirrelle!

I put my back out just watching them!

Mr D started doing Noom in January.

He saw that I was getting along pretty well with it and decided to give it a whirl.  He didn't need to lose as much as I did, so he signed up for four months at the end of January, and eventually lost just about 2 stones (28 pounds).  He's done really well, and apart from the fact that he's once again back to being lighter than me (bastard!!), I'm really proud of him.

He finished Noom, and I wanted to get him a gift to mark the occasion.  I thought chocolate would be fun, seeing as he's hardly had any for the last four months, and then I saw these bars.  They're ordinary chocolate with special wrappers made of two (or more) normal chocolate wrappers, shall we say, rearranged to spell another word!

These are all made up of established UK chocolate bar wrappers.  I imagine my UK friends will recognise all of them; my non-UK friends may recognise some of them.  As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to get them for Mr D, because they ARE his sense of humour!!

Needless to say, he loved them!!!   XD

Today's a fairly significant anniversary in the Dizzo household.

It's thirty years today since mine and Mr D's very first date.  We went for a drink in a pub called the White Hart.  I chose that pub specfically because it was less than five minutes walk from the house where I lived with my Mum and Dad, and if he turned out to be a creep, then I could make a quick getaway.

Thankfully, it turned out that Mr D was pretty far away frrom being a creep, and we had a lovely evening.

And the rest is history!

I don't have any photos from that date, so here's a couple of photos from our 15th wedding anniversary trip to Rome!

Mr D has, unsurprisingly, been an absolute star this week, while I have been a bit flaky.  He's totally empathetic that I'm mourning the loss of a friend and is being completely understanding and sympathetic without ever being patronising or impatient.

He even managed to make me laugh out loud this evening!

You remember Mr D bought me a life-size cardboard cut-out of Jensen for my birthday two weeks ago, right?

Well, it seems that a few days ago Mr D ordered himself a hoodie, a BMX retro-branded hoodie, and it was delivered today, while Mr D was working from home.   I was upstairs, so I didn't know that he'd taken delivery of it.

When I packed up work tonight and came downstairs, this is what I found ...

Words fail me...   XD

Mr D and I went for a walk around our local country park yesterday, and walked past a Willow tree, one of many trees on the bank of one of the lakes.

Me: I love Willow trees, they always look so peaceful and serene.
Mr D: I like that one in Harry Potter that beats the shit out of people...

So yesterday, I had a birthday!

The practical part of me thinks that I should stop having birthdays because each one makes me a year older.  However, the big kid part of me loves birthdays because they're fun and I get presents!

Here on Lj, I got lovely birthday messages from [livejournal.com profile] fanspired, [livejournal.com profile] eternal_moonie, [livejournal.com profile] jillmariej, [livejournal.com profile] emmatheslayerand [livejournal.com profile] meus_venator.  I also got the sweetest V-gift from [livejournal.com profile] tyson1997.

In addition, I got some lovely birthday posts from my F/listies:

[livejournal.com profile] metallidean_grl, [livejournal.com profile] deanshot, [livejournal.com profile] casey28, [livejournal.com profile] kiramaru7 and [livejournal.com profile] heliokleia

Which were all very much appreciated!

So, I'm delighted to say that after the drama of Mr D's 'moment' last week, we had a very peaceful, uneventful weekend.

On Sunday, the weather was mild enough for us to be able to sit out in the garden for a couple of hours for the first time this year, which was lovely.  We had a little discussion about some garden maintenance jobs to do over the Easter break, in particular what we need to do to bunny-proof the garden for when our little furbabies arrive.

Mr D surprised me with this lovely hoodie, partly as a late Christmas present, and partly as a non-calorific treat for my successful weight loss campaign.

As you can see, I'm really pleased with it:

It's comfortable, and stylish, but there was a specific reason why he picked this one:

I'm posting this today as I probably won't be around tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow is Mr D's birthday.  I've often extolled the virtues of Mr Dizzo at my journal, and so, I couldn't let this auspicious occasion pass without tribute.

Here is the man himself, a man who absolutely deserves being celebrated:

We both have our own cars.  Mr D's was a Nissan Note and it was older than mine (13 years old) and he's had it since it was new, it's been an amazingly reliable servant.  However, now he is driving a lot more miles for work, we have been talking about replacing it on and off for a few months now, as the poor thing is starting to show it's age.

In the last six months, it's been in and out of the garage for niggly little issues, but when they are added up, they no doubt cost more than the car was worth.  So a week ago, we started talking more seriously about a replacement.  Probably need to look at doing it in the new year we said.

Then on Friday, Mr D saw a car he liked on the website of a dealership in the village that has an excellent reputation.  On Saturday we went to look at it.  On Sunday, we sorted out the finance.

On Monday, we got the nod.

This afternoon, Mr D said a fond farewell to his old friend, and we welcomed this new beast (NIssan Qashqai) into our lives...

Apparently Mr D has called it 'Chonky'.
If it means that Mr D is driving on the motorway every day in a bigger, safer and more reliable car, I'll call it whatever he wants!  :D

Today Mr D and I planned to spend a day in Glastonbury, one of my favourite places.  We had originally planned to do this for my birthday, but that ended up being a week after lockdown in he UK started back at the beginning of April, so that never happened.

Therefore, now things are a bit more flexible, we had planned to do my birthday trip today - five months late but, hey-ho!

Sitting on the couch with Mr D, and just casually I did that thing that us ladies do when we undo and remove our bra under our shirt.

Now Mr D thinks I'm a cross between a magician and a contortionist!!!!  :D

I bought something for Mr Dizzo's birthday, which is in October, but after the good news about his promotion, which he's worked so hard for, and is so long overdue, I decided to give it to him early.

A little bit of backstory; I don't know if I've ever mentioned this on here before, but Mr D loves Puffins.  He likes all animals, but there's something about those cute, whimsical little birds that really enchants him, and ever since I've known him, he's been a Puffin nut.  He's even taken himself off to Lundy a couple of times in the past while I've been away at JIB just to sit on the cliffs with his camera and watch the Puffins coming and going.

When we went to Iceland two years ago, we went on a whalewatching trip, and at that time (July), the Puffins had done all their breeding and egg-laying and their Pufflings had all flown the burrow, so they were all back at sea, and while the rest of the boat were watching dolphins and Minke whales, he was drooling over little Puffins!

So I bought a cute little wrought-iron Puffin garden ornament for him.  It's designed to be attached to a fence/fencepost or something like that, and I decided that, rather than wait for his birthday,  he deserved a treat to mark his promotion.  Also, if I gave it to him October we probably wouldn't get many opportunities that late in the year to sit out in the garden and enjoy it.

I think he liked it!
it's now the figurehead on top of his shed/workshop :D

Mr Dizzo and I are heading out for a meal tonight. We haven't been out to a proper restaurant since about February, thanks to lockdown etc, so needless to say I'm ridiculously excited!!

The reason for our indulgence is because it's 26 years ago today that we tied the knot and became 'the Dizzos'!

As I was 26 when we got married, I have apparently been a married woman for exactly half my life.  Mr D was a sweet young thing of 25, so he's passed that halfway mark...

Wow!!
