I've just got back from a fun weekend in Paris at a Spartacus convention.  It was a lovely weekend, having the opportunity to meet people from a different fandom; in many ways it was all very familiar, but it was also strangely different.  Almost like watching myself interacting with long-time Supernatural fandom friends from the outside, as I watched all these Spartacus fans who had laughed and celebrated together over five years worth of conventions.

Attending the convention was a bit of a last-minute decision, (if about three months ago could be considered last-minute).

My friend, and JIB Roommate, Wendy, had first asked me about the con back in the early Summer, and I'd had to let her down because I'd scheduled myself to do the Pretty Muddy fun run for Cancer Research that same weekend, so I had to decline.  Then the shoulder thing happened, and my fracture clinic doctor told me that Pretty Muddy was a no-no.
I'd already got some people sponsoring me, so I announced on Facebook that I was no longer going to be able to do it, and within an hour, Wendy had messaged me.  'So you're free for the Spartacus convention now?'

I'm back from a brilliant weekend in Paris at a Spartacus convention.  It was a busy weekend, but with the usual round of photo ops, autographs and social events, it was very familiar, even if it wasn't for once the Supernatural fandom.

I'll post my pictures and some blurb here, hopefully tomorrow.  Unfortunately I bought back a souvenir other than pictures and autographs - and it was nothing so pleasant ... I seem to have picked up the French cold from hell, and after a 4.30 am start this morning (for a 7 am flight), plus an early morning traipse through Charles de Gaulle airport, which is possibly the biggest airport on the planet ... it certainly felt like it this morning after I walked through six terminals to get to my gate, I'm barely functioning!  I'm running hot and cold, congested to the hilt and ache all over, so I'm heading off to my bed in an attempt to get fit enough for work tomorrow!

Love you all - sending virtual germ-free hugs!

This time, a picture of Tiberius Crassus, he's the son of a Roman General, and an all-round nasty piece of work.
I would love to get one more done for the con, but time isn't on my side, I only have three free evenings left before I fly out to Paris, so we'll have to see how that pans out.

When I get back from Paris, I will be taking a loooooong break from drawing.  I've done so much this year - I've done 19 of these character portraits, and that's in addition to dapplegrey art stuff, I'm feeling a little burnt out, I need to not be putting myself under pressure to produce something for once!  I think October is going to be a drawing-free zone, and that will do me the world of good.

And so, here is my weekend's work, another pic for my Spartacus con - this time it's the man himself, Spartacus.  This was quite an awkward pose, and I did a lot of fiddling about with it,  but on the whole I'm happy with how it turned out!

I have set myself a target of two more pictures completed before I head off to Paris on the 5th of October - guess I know what I'm doing this weekend, then ...

And this is the real version ...

So, I'm getting ready for my Spartacus convention in Paris in October, and so this is a picture of Gaius Claudius Glaber.  He's the centurion who initially enslaves Spartacus, and if he looks a little unfriendly, that's because he is - he's a complete bastard!

He's played by Craig Parker, (who I'm sure, unlike his character, is a perfectly nice bloke), and some of you may know that name from when he was Haldir in Lord of the Rings.

I know that a lot of you aren't that familiar with Spartacus, and so here's the real Glaber in all his glory...

I haven't been around online much over the last few days.  There's no sinister reason for this, it's just been too hot to sit in the house, so I've been spending my time sitting out in the garden. As I can't see my laptop screen in bright sunlight, or keep the battery charged outside, I just haven't been spending time online, so I've been using my time in other constructive ways ...

Some of you may or may not know that I'm going to a Spartacus convention in Paris in October.  That being the case, I decided that I needed to start producing some material for autographs, and here is the first finished product:

This is a Gladiator called Agron, whose actor, Daniel Feuerriegel, will be at the con. )
