My computer

yourself (disguised enough that you're comfortable sharing the photo) your favorite book (we won't tell any of the others you picked a favorite) merchandise from a fandom (pick your definition of fandom--sports 100% qualify) your exercise equipment the view out a window
something alive a meal a letter/postcard from someone (feel free to redact) something that keeps you sane your computer
a useful tool memorabilia from an event outside wild card a game you've been playing a musical instrument
something someone made for you a gift you're planning to give an outfit you've worn recently (with or without you inside it) something that makes you smile the kitchen sink
something unexpected something funny a bad habit a good habit something you're proud of

This is my computer.

It's a Dell Inspiron laptop; I've had it three years, and it was the replacement for my good old Sony Vaio that I still miss!

After a shaky start when my original purchase had to be replaced after a terminal hard drive fault three weeks after I bought it, and another terminal fault that required it to be repaired after about a year later, it seems to have settled down (touch wood).

It always has a blob of Blu-tak over the webcam because I don't like them and I don't trust them.  The Blu-tak only comes off when I'm actually using the webcam.

Over the years, my false nails have worn almost all the letters off the keyboard, and these had to be replaced with stickers,  I now have a plastic film over the keyboard to protect them!

And of course, I know you're no doubt all surprised by my desktop picture ...

That's a great picture. I'd have that as my wallpaper too. I have all my webcams covered too. I keep getting these spam emails of someone having recorded me doing "things" and blackmailing me for money or else they will release the vid. Emails such as that have made me just a little paranoid. So much so that I don't even like uncovering my cam to even facetime with anyone.

Glad to hear your computer has settled down. Dell's are usually good computers. We have a couple here at work and they work pretty well.

I get those stupid emails too. I just ignore them!

Yes, (fingers crossed), computer seems to be behaving itself now. This was my first Dell, and in the early days I didn't have the best experience. But to be fair, my Vaio was always going to be a hard act to follow.

Out of interest, why didn't you go for another Vaio when you bought the replacement?

Sony stopped making them in about 2015, otherwise no question, I would have gone for another Vaio.

Ah right. I think you can buy refurbished ones though.

I've never bought a refurbished computer, I don't know how good or reliable they are... I've always just taken for granted that I get a new one!

I admit, I'm the same, but my techie friend (who I go to for advice on all things computery) has a refurbished Macbook and tells me it's a good way to buy the spec you want at a much lower price.

That's interesting to know because, to be honest, I'm not sure I'd go for a Dell again, so it's good to know other options!

I hadn't realised that hard drives have a limited life - 3-4 years is normal, apparently, 5-6 if you're lucky - which is rather disturbing. It does focus one on the need for regular and complete backups! It's definitely worth looking around for refurbished machines, especially if you can find a reputable seller.

I couldn't type at all with false nails! LOL

I've got used to it. My nails are bare at the moment and it feels so strange.
It's probably really good for them to have a break though!

Not a literal break ;)

Nothing to break I'm afraid. The hard coating has been off about a month, and they're already gnawed down to the quick!
That's the whole reason why I started wearing fake nails in the first place...

Damn! I thought having the falsies would have trained that habit out of you.

Nope, even with the false nails, I often caught myself having a nibble on my nails, especially when I was distracted. It's just with the hard coating, it's very hard to do any damage. I don't think I'll ever be free of that habit!
