I watched the episode his morning and really enjoyed it.  However, moving away from the big story arc for a moment, can we just take a moment to appreciate the little scene with Dean vs the evil pepper jerky?

It was a masterclass in pure comic genius.  So understated and nuanced, there was no slapstick falling about and flailing.

We had
Stage 1: Toughing it out, and making sure that baby brother was completely unaware of any signs of discomfort...

Stage 2: dignified indifference...

Stage 3: not quite so dignified gagging.

Stage 4: It's not eye-wiping okay?  He's just resting his hand against his face...

Stage 5: Complete and utter defeat.

I wqas very impressed with Dean's ability to tough out a mouthful of flames the way he did, before he grabbed that bottle of water. Sam's lil moments of concern/wanting to laugh his butt off, which played beautifully in an equally understated way, just added to the scene (and showed off some awesome acting chops on both their parts!). It was brilliant & classic & I think a highlight so far. :D

that was a brilliant scene. Jensen is so good at comedy and really does the understated so well. Actors who act in comedies, who are supposed to be funny, but truly aren't, should take some lessons from Jensen.

Yep. Epic scene. Perfectly played by both of them. Jared's responses were spot on, but Jensen really is just so good at physical comedy. And I'm watching it and saying to myself, yeah, this is gonna be one of those episodes where they lull us with lighthearted feelgood moments and then rip our still beating hearts out later...

Hee hee hee, such a funny scene and Jensen was PERFECT here! I love your captions especially 'dignified indifference' - he really tried to tough it out! And Sam's reactions were so funny, too, he was being such a little shit and it was nice to see them being brothers and having a fun moment - not that it was fun for Dean!
