Oh bugger!

Well, when I went laptop shopping last spring, I expressed my regret and doubt that I would ever find anything as reliable as my clunky old Sony Vaio which served me faithfully for donkeys years and which never once let me down.

So, apparently, I was right to doubt because the stupid sodding piece of junk I replaced it with, crashed irreversibly at the weekend and now has to be wiped and fitted with a new hard drive to be repaired. Of course, I haven't done a back up for six months because that would be far too sensible!!

*Sigh*

I've only had this new laptop for 10 months so at least it's in warranty, so that's handy at least...

But anyway, it's not all bad. On the subject of 'junk', this little poseur is flashing his around (such as it is). He joined me yesterday, but I don't think Sam's impressed!

He'll make his debut at [livejournal.com profile] spn_on_parade shortly, just as soon as I've got my laptop back (that ego needs a big screen to do it justice!!)

Anyway, I hope you're all having a great week - much love from Dizzoland xx

Oh Jane, that's really a bugger! Is there at least anything they can do at the shop to transfer your data to an external drive? Sending you lots of PADAHUGS!!

Anyway, can't wait what that "little poseur" is up to next - JJ's adventures with hers were already a treat to read and watch!

Hi there!
They could do a data recovery but they wanted £120 to do it. I argued that I was only losing the data because their shitty product went wrong but that service isn't covered by the warranty.
I figure that most of the stuff I store on my computer is uploaded to the net one place or another so I should be able to get my stuff back together eventually!
Little Poseur is looking forward to joining the gang over at the Parade :)

Oh menno, that's heavy! When I had to replace my laptop last year, I also asked about data recovery, and since I not only was buying my new device at that shop, but also provided them with an external hard drive (that I just bought shortly before), they offered to do it for €29, instead of €59. And except for some small files, they managed to get everything transferred.

What they are doing with you is just trying to milk you for as much money as possible *shakes head*

May I ask which brand of laptop you had now?

You're right. They are a bunch of crooks. I'm glad you found a decent place that managed to get you all fixed up and for a good price.
I've got a Dell now. Highly NOT recommended!

I'm back at a HP one now (had one before the one broken last year), and I'm really happy about it! So I totally recommend it, of course! XD

I just knew I was never going to match my trusty old Vaio. It was Windows 7, it weighed a ton and it had been battered and busted over time, but it just trundled on with never a complaint until it got so old and slow it was unusable! :'(

I had an awesome computer that had Windows 7 on it and I probably would still have it if I hadn't spilled soda on it and had to deal with all these other computers. The one I have now has a common bug for the brand where it randomly will go to a blank screen and you can't get out of it. It's annoying, especially when you're writing or doing digital art!

Sorry to hear about your computer crashing. That really sucks. And that you haven't backed up in awhile, even suckier. It was luck you were still under warranty. I swear, computers have this internal clock that knows when you are no longer under warranty and they wait to break down until that is over.

I've had my computer crash on me twice in the last 10 years and each time I hadn't backed up my system, but luckily, each time, I got a computer genius who was able to recover most of my stuff for me. Now I back up at least once every day. Burn me twice is enough, if burned a third time and I don't back up, well then, I deserve to lose everything new, cuz, really, I should know better.

Yes, I'll definitely get into the habit of backing up more regularly after this!!

What a bugger about your laptop, especially as you had your old one for so long. I hope it's back working soon. And yaay, you finally got one!

The shop said it would be back from the repairers about 6/7 March, and then they'd need it for a day or two to set it all up again ... download MS Office, printer drivers etc. I'm rubbish at that sort of thing!

Hopefully it will be done by then and all in ship shape order!

Wow I just had to replace my laptop last weekend too. I had a toshiba and she was a dream. Sadly she just got so slow and stuff would just stop loading and it would just stop. I feel your pain. I'm writing this on my new hp but I'm so not used to this thing. xo

That's what happened to my old Vaio. She just trundled on and on, never letting me down until she got so old and slow she was unusable. That was a sad day! :'(
