So,, that's it all done for another year, possibly forever (at least until we find out what else Misha has up his sleeve for next year). As always, GISHWHES was the usual maelstrom of madness and humiliation with a generous splodge of creativity, and a fair helping of philanthropy thrown in.

Our team, which included (apart from me), [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams, [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal, [livejournal.com profile] xlittleangx, [livejournal.com profile] dean_hugs_sammy, [livejournal.com profile] herminekurotowa and [livejournal.com profile] edina_clouds128 had time frustrations pretty much throughout the week with work and other commitments imposing on our GISHing time.  We weren't able to get together for our usual GISH foray into London, but even so, we still managed to complete 97 tasks which included ...

Nose painting, pretending to be bumblebees and satellite dishes, making pavement art, making up a comfort bag for a cancer patient, playing interdimensional hopscotch, tobogganing in the middle of summer, raising funds to realise a dying woman's dream, wearing cabbage on our head, undertaking a toothbrushing survey, spoofing pretentious fashion adverts, leaving anonymous messages of support and comfort, writing a sonnet to string, turnning a shopping trolley into a spaceship, making clothing out of bananas and photocopying paper, making portraits of Misha out of breadcrumbs, baking banana cake for residents of a care home, and playing drums ... differently. .

So, just for jolly, here's a run down of my efforts for GISHWHES 2017, Team SPN Family Business:

I'm putting this one first, because if you don't look at anything else on this post, you need to see this ...

The challenge was: Play a few bars of a well-known tune on a well-known musical instrument—but not in the well-known manner. Play a cello tucked under your chin, a saxophone with mallets, or piano as a string instrument with a bow, that sort of thing. The more unexpected the utilization, the more points.

Now, I have no musical talent whatsoever, but Mr D does, so I left this task in his capable hands, and, boy, did he deliver
.  The video we submitted was only 14 seconds long, but this is Mr D's entire 3-minute masterpiece!

My photo for the team task:  The year is 2021. Of all the unique and amazing human specimens on Earth, it was hard for the aliens to choose which ones to collect, but your team stood out as being excessively weird & worth “analysis". Your entire team was abducted and put into an alien specimen box. In grid form, show each member of your team along with a card explaining where they got you (city, country) and a word stating what special characteristic makes you unique.

After my misadventures of the last few days, this seemed like the only appropriate word:

Personify your favorite movie title. Include a caption on your image of the title of the movie in quotes.
(One of my faourite movies is 'The Dish', an Australian Film about the Parkes Satellite Dish which is situated in a sheep paddock in New South Wales, and was responsible for transmitting the footage of the moon walk in 1966)

Never judge a book by its cover… or bread by its shape. Bake bread or cookies into the shape of something you would DEFINITELY not want to eat. (I blame Mr D entirely for this one, this is what happens when your husband works with bowel patients):

For many years, military aircraft sported spectacular “nose art”— artistic homages to people, places, and ideas important to the aircraft crew. As aesthetically appealing as aircraft nose art may have been, we think they botched it on the choice of canvas. Show us your best nose art - but this time, get it right! All art must be on, around, or incorporate, your nose

The World’s Worst Lawyer.

Now that this may be the last gishwhes-as-we-know-it ever, it’s time to reflect on missed opportunities. Let’s see the Item List Misha SHOULD have made all these years. Give us your team’s ideal gishwhes Item List with a minimum of 10 Items. (This was a team effort):

Fulfil one of the tasks in your list. Therefore: String is such an underappreciated part of a civilised society. Where would the human race be without the humble ball of string? Show your appreciation to the wonder of string by writing a sonnet to it.

THE FINAL “KALE” ART. Take a SINGLE glorious piece of kale and, using whatever adornments or other decoratives, clipping patterns, etc., create a stunning, museum worthy piece of art that shall then be showcased (and submitted as such) as an ornamental headpiece on you.

(As kale is very difficult to come by in the UK at this time of year, I had to cheat a little bit and used spring greens!
(I'm such a rebel!!)

(Any resemblance to the Archbishop of Canterbury is purely co-incidental)

Our fundraising page on behalf of Random Acts' 'Change a Life' recipient with over 10 donations on it.
(The heartbreaking story is HERE)

So all in all, a great week's work.  well done, my fab team-mates!

Ah, I’m going to miss seeing all your crazy shenanigans for GISHWHES! It’s so sad it’s the last year, but you’ve all gone out on a high! Mr D is a legend! His lip syncing is brilliant and he put his all into playing those drums!
I love your characteristic of ‘clumsy’, it is very apt for you recently! The nose plaster is the finishing touch! (I hope your hand is better now)
I love how you’ve recreated The Dish with the help of Shaun the sheep – I must watch that film.
The cookie is offally disgusting, the Impala nose art is awfully clever and your ‘Kale’ headdress is veggy good!!
I love Bill the lawyer, we need more Bills! The GISHWHES items are great, I read them on Milly’s page, and I love the Ode to String!
But as well as all the fun, it’s heart-warming to know that GISHWHES has helped keep Dancescape going and fulfilled Fiona’s dying wish – the vid made me weep buckets!
GISHWHES has been glorious!

Glad you enjoyed all my shenanigans - the story of Dancescape was heartbreaking and inspiring, wasn't it.
