Happy Father's Day

It's Father's Day here in the UK.

I phoned my Dad to wish him happy father's day this morning and true to form, all he wanted to know about was how I was getting on.

He always says he's proud of me, but I'm proud of him too.  I've always been Daddy's Girl and will always be.



I love this picture of him dancing with my Mum at a family new years celebration.  It's an oldie, about mid eighties I think, and it just sums up his silly sense of humour perfectly.

I used to have trouble getting my Dad to talk about what he'd been doing too, he just wanted to hear about me. Daddy's girls unite! :D

Yes, we have been very blessed to have such great, inspirational men in our lives.

It was more upsetting than I'd anticipated - we never really used to 'do' father's day. But odd things are ambushing me out of the blue anyway, so it's just something to get used to. We all have to live with loss one way or another.

I totally understand that. The 'first' of everything is always the hardest; the first Christmas, the first fathers' day without him etc.

I remember after my Grandad passed away in August 2009, being out shopping on my 42nd birthday and just breaking down in the middle of a coffee shop because it just dawned on me that this was my first birthday without any Grandparents. It was an odd and very sad realisation that just hit me like a train. So everything you're going through is completely normal and understandable. As you say, loss is one of those things we have to live with, but that doesn't make it any easier.
