dizzojayAs my birthday fell during the week and I had to go to work, how rude, my birthday treat was saved for today.
We headed off to the beautiful and very old village of Avebury which is unique in that it sits in the middle of a prehistoric stone circle. It's one of my favourite places in the world; it's steeped in mystery and even better, it has the most gorgeous pub that serves food to die for!
So after a very delicious lunch, we spent a nice afternoon peacefully wandering around the circle and soaking up a little of the atmosphere.

Here's an ancient old relic. Oh, and a stone too.

Date: 2014-04-07 09:07 pm (UTC)One plan is to visit Stonehenge on Solstice morning, which I think will be lively with Druids and hippies. I think on Solstice Day you can approach the stones, unlike on other days, and also admission is free. So we'll probably be to Avebury around that time as well.
There are so many great places we want to visit and revisit, and never enough time for everything!
