dizzojayI've had a commission request recently from a gentleman called Rex on the Isle of Wight. He wanted a picture of the family spaniel for his wife for a Christmas present.
Rex is a self-confessed dinosaur who doesn't do emails, social media or texting (or technology in general), so instead of doing everything over the internet as I normally would, I arranged to meet Rex when I was next on the Island. It was all very cloak-and-dagger because he wanted the picture to be a surprise.
That happened to be last weekend, and we arranged to meet up for a coffee in the cafe at Newport Marks and Spencer, and discuss arrangements, review some photos of the dog and hand over a deposit for the work.
So, on Saturday, I rocked up at the M&S Cafe and met Rex. We chatted for a moment, then he handed over the deposit with all the photos. He offered me a coffee, so I started browsing through the photos he'd bought along while he went up to the counter.
A few moments later, Rex was on his way back to our table with two lattes in hand, when he paused and looked across to a woman who went over to talk to him. The two exchanged conversation for a few moments, and then Rex headed back over to our table. He sat down, handed me my coffee and sighed.
"What are the odds?" He said; "that was my wife's best friend."
"Oh typical," I replied.
"Yeah, and I'm sitting here talking to an unfamiliar younger woman and handing money over to her!"
Whoops!!!!
Rex might need more than a dog picture to please the Missus!!!
