So, on Friday, the UK played host to Storm Eunice.  She was a temperamental old bitch and she outstayed her welcome, then she went on to visit Europe, and I sincerely hope my European chums weren't too inconvenienced by her!

We all battened down the hatches on Friday, and waited for her to pass over.

At one point during Friday there was a news report that gusts of 122 mph, the highest ever recorded in England, had been measured off the Needles, a rock formation on the extreme west coast of the Isle of Wight.  My first thought was 'shit, that's about 2 miles from Mum and Dad's!'

Our power went off about 11 am on Friday, and didn't come back on until about 3pm today.  We had no heat, hot water or light, which in February in the UK equates to 'bloody cold', but we also had no wifi and a very flaky mobile phone signal.  I was finally able to raise my Mum and Dad at 8 pm yesterday. They've lost several roof tiles and three fence panels, which they really didn't need with everything else that's going on at the moment, but which - I guess - could have been a lot worse.

We managed to get away with no damage.  I'm just SO glad we had our big silver birch tree lopped last Autumn, if he'd been left at his previous size, we would have been seriously panicking yesterday.

Luckily, we have a gas hob, so we were able to boil water for tea and washing, and able to cook whatever could be cooked in a pan, so we could, at least, have some hot food yesterday.  We found a pack of sausages in the fridge, so dinner yesterday was sausage sandwiches!  Not exactly haute cuisine, but it was hot and tasty, and that was good enough!

But anyway, when the sun (or what little of it we had) went down yesterday, this was the view in our living room:

The poor bunnies were as confused as heck.  We shut them in their run about 5pm because we didn't want to be groping round for them in the dark to try to put them to bed, and they really couldn't understand why it was dark so early and why we were still in the room. Normally, it only gets dark in that room when we switch the light off and go to bed!

And it was COLD!    In the end, I went to bed at around 8.30 pm,, just so I could be under the duvet!
But, here I am in my three fleecy and woollen layers (you can't see the thermal undies!)

But, hey!  The power is now back on.  We're warm, we've got light and wifi.  There are a lot of people worse off than us.  It's just not a day I'd like to repeat...

So, Eunice, if you're reading this, please fuck right off.  And keep on fucking off until you can't fuck off any further.  Then, just live the dream and piss off instead. Please.

Sounds like you were back in the Middle Ages for a while there! What did you all do in the dark? The candles look pretty comfy as do your clothes!

Sorry that you went through that, though I am glad that you came out of it mostly unscathed.

Thank you for the birthday cupcake.

Glad you're back online and that you managed to muddle through the storm OK. I hope your parents can get their repairs done without any dramas. They've been through enough. Hugs to you all ((♥))
