Date: 2021-12-02 04:45 pm (UTC)I was going to tell you this story when you posted a pic of your scratched face, but I needed a minute to recover from my bunny PTSD. ;-) I hope your scratches are healing well. <3 I hope this is OK to tell here; no denigration to your darling bunnies intended...
For my first job out of college, I worded for a photo development studio (remember those) that also did portraits. They had rent-a-rabbits for kids to have their photo taken with for Easter. Not sure if that would fly today, as it was kind of a liability, which I found out the hard way. I picked one of the rabbits up and it kicked my chest with its back legs (and claws). Then it grabbed on and raked me with its front feet as I was trying to carefully put it down without dropping it. Despite it being through my shirt, the little bugger ripped me up pretty badly. That was the worst animal-inflicted injury I ever got, despite owning a lethally violent tomcat as a child...
And they say rabbits are harmless! I had visions of Woundwort. ;-)

Date: 2021-12-09 08:02 pm (UTC)There is a reason why rabbits are one of the most neglected and abandoned pets, and that is because the story goes that they're low maintenance and that they're good pets for children. No — they're neither of those things. Being prey animals, it means they basically spend their entire lives in fear. As a result, they don't cope well with noisy, unpredictable people — like children. If they feel unsafe or insecure they can be aggressive, and won't hesitate to lash out, and those big hind legs are STRONG!!
I'm sorry to hear about your bunny-trauma. I hope it hasn't soured bunnies for you, because once you get inside their crazy little noggins, and accept their eccentricities, they are the most adorable little ratbags ever xx
