I'm almost caught up.   This is a set of questions from June 2021.

1) What's your favorite dish to bring to a summer cookout?
I like to keep things simple.  A nice lean beef burger, complete with cheese, bbq sauce and bun, and a nice crispy jacket potato with a bit of green salad suits me just fine.

2) How much time have you spent outdoors this week?
Not as much as I’d like.  We’re having a horrible summer here in the UK so far, it’s been far too wet and chilly, but it’s been a nice evening tonight, so I’ve been sitting out in the garden (albeit with a coat on!)

3) Where do you set your thermostat?
We normally set it at 18 degrees Celsius.  Heating is switched off at the moment.

4) How did you learn to swim?
I was a bit of a late developer swimming-wise.  I learned to swim in my early twenties.  I worked for a guy who lived in a big house and he had an indoor swimming pool.  His daughter also happened to be a swimming teacher.  So she taught me in the privacy of his pool.

5) How do you avoid overheating?
I’m British and I’m menopausal, so it doesn’t take much to overheat me.  However, with the crap summer we’re having so far in the UK, the chance to overheat would be a fine thing!
Last year, however, we had a sensational summer with temps in excess of 30 degrees celcius for days at a time and I was spending hours sitting in the garden with my feet in a bucket of cold water!

I never spend enough time outside, no matter the weather. All the things I need or want to do around the house require me to be indoors. Bah! I get you about overheating. Not a fun thing. It appears we are having the summer this year that you had last year. For several weeks we had unusually hot weather. It was ghastly. Thankfully, we are now back down to more normal temps for this side of the country. Summer has been great so far, except for those really high temps a couple weeks ago. I hope you get your summer at some point. We all need to frolic around in the sunshine in a bucket of cold water at some point, right?

We have had a few nice warm days for the last few days, however today has been a bit rainy — still warm and unbearably humid though!

Oh I hate the humidity. I think I would rather have high temps over high humidity. We don't get a lot of humidity here during the summer. The humidity is reserved for the eastern and southern states. We're lucky it is not a big thing here. When we do get higher humidity, it comes in like it did for you, hot temps and then lots of clouds and rain. Once the clouds and rain are gone, so is the humidity.

Are you guys flooding now too? I've seen some pictures of the big double decker buses in London trying to drive in high water. That's never good.

Humidity stinks, it really does. The heat here in the UK is a really damp heat, not a dry heat like you get in the Mediterranean, it really saps all your energy. Add to the fact that UK houses don't have A/C. UK houses are built with tons of insulation to hold in heat, and A/C really isn't a thing here in the UK so there's no escape from it. So if UK people make a fuss of the heat — that's why!

There has been some flooding here in England. A lot of the south east of England (where I live) is very low lying, so is subsceptible to flooding. Thankfully we haven't had any out our way. I know there has been some flooding in parts of London, but we haven't had it anywhere near as badly as the poor people in Germany and Belgium. My heart goes out to them :'(

That would be my favorite, too. Is a jacket potato what we in the States call a baked potato? I LOVE them with sour cream topping.

Ah, yes! jacket potato is a baked potato with its skin on, so I guess that's what you would call a baked potato?

My favourite potato topping is cheese and baked beans!

Ah, we don't have cicadas here. Although if you go to a rural area in the summer, you can sometimes hear crickets and grasshoppers chirping at dusk.
