Happy Post: At bloody last!

Tomorrow, the next stage of unlocking is happening in the UK, and that means ... finally, after eight months of lockdown, I can go and visit my parents!

My parents have never embraced technology, and they dont have a computer or internet, so there's been no 'Zoom' option or anything like that, and that means basically that I haven't seen their faces since October last year, and they haven't seen mine.  Obviously we speak on the phone and there has been letters and cards back and forth, but beyond that I've had no contact with them. hey keep saying they're ok over the phone, and I'm sure they are, but I need to see it with my own eyes.

Tomorrow can't come quick enough - and to make it even more bizarre, we'll be exchanging Christmas presents!

No, I only went for the day, but I'll be going over for a weekend next time.

Yeah for visiting your parents. It must have been very hard for all of you not being able to see each since October. That is happy news
Why are ye exchanging Christmas gift though, I had the same reaction as Dean did, I literally said 'what'?

It's been a bloody long time — all over the winter, absolutely soul-destroying. But hopefully will have been worthwhile and no further lockdowns will be necessary.

Yay, Jane! We here in Austria are gonna have our entire dining and lodging industry (restaurants, hotels, and such) reopened this week as well.

Good news here in the US, too. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has said anyone who is fully vaccinated no longer has to wear a mask, socially distance at gatherings large or small, indoors or out. Thank goodness for that. About 60% of people in the US are now vaccinated so that is definitely good news.

Enjoy the visit with your parents. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to see you.

That's great. I think we're a little way away from that here in the UK. Even when fully vaccinated, there's no foreseeable end to mask wearing yet. Funnily enough I don't mind that. If it means I can be around people again, I'll gladly wear a mask!

I never minded wearing a mask either. But then, we rarely go anywhere except doctors and the pharmacy so we didn't have to wear them often.
