Snowflake Challenge - Day 10

Day 10: In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, creator, episode, or it could be your fandom friends. Share your love and squee as loud as you want to. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have written a few love letters for various challenges and memes in the past – to my fandom, to my show – Supernatural, to the Winchester Brothers and to Dean Winchester.

So, for the purposes of this challenge, I’m going to step outside the box and write a love letter to our beautiful lady Impala.

 

Baby,

You and I have a lot in common.  We’re both April babies; we’ve both seen in the half-century; we’re both carrying a bit of extra weight in the trunk; and we both have a few creaky moving parts.

Now, what I know about cars you could write on the back of a postage stamp, and still have room for a signature and a couple of emojis at the bottom.  But you – I know you have an eight valve engine, a three twenty seven, four barrel carburetor a hundred and nineteen inch wheelbase and you pull two seventy five horsepower.

However, I also know that you’re so much more than the sum of your parts, and that I love you far more than is probably healthy for a person to love a car.

I love you because you love those brothers.

I love you because you have given them warmth, security, protection and shelter whenever the world was cold and dark and dangerous.

I love you because you have been the one constant in their lives; the one ‘person’ who has never let them down.

And I love you because you are the most fabulous assault on the senses.  You look beautiful, all streamlined black panels and gleaming chrome; you sound beautiful, the rumble of your engine is pure, powerful music; and when I think of your interior I can smell you in my mind’s ‘nose’.  It’s a heady fragrance of old, well-maintained leather and coffee, with faint notes of gun oil, cheap aftershave, and the subtle musk of the two warm, living bodies which spend so much time in you.  It’s an intoxicating scent.

But I don’t want to embarrass you any more, so I’ll just conclude by saying thank you.

Thank you for being the fourth member of Team Free Will (and undoubtedly the most sensible one).  Thank you for being the Winchester Brothers’ Momma-wheels.  Thank you for being a badass formidable lady that we can all admire. Thank you for being my Muse. 

Baby, just … thank you.

That's wonderful! What a great letter to such an iconic car, even though I'm not in the fandom I know all about the Impala!

How did you manage to make me all emotional over a car?!!! (Though you've reminded me how I used to get goose bumps when 'Back in Black' would come on and we'd see 'baby' appear over a hill in the distance.) Thanks for sharing this!

I love all the scenes where Baby is prominent. She's as much a character as any of the people in the show! :D
