So that was that. I am officially another year older! I've been thoroughly spoilt (and a proper thank you post will follow over the next couple of days!)
To mark the occasion, we spent a few days in beautiful Warwickshire, the heart of the english countryside. Our days were mainly made up of eating and drinking, but in between times, we spent some time in the hotel pool and spa, and visited some old haunts around the local area, such as Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon.
This year, we spent more time in Warwick than we usually do, and this gave me the time to take some photos, and really appreciate what a beautiful town Warwick is. It has hundreds of years of history, and the buildings in the town reflect its age !

We also made a point of visiting Warwick's magnificent castle.

We wandered round the castle, and walked all around the ramparts for most of the morning, and eventually stopped for a bit of a time out, and so I took the opportunity to make a little video...
DIdn't you know that every castle has its resident troll??? :D
At the castle we also decided to do 'the Dungeon experience'. A forty-five minute tour through he dark and murky crypts and dungeons under the castle, experiencing dramatisations of the lovelier aspects of history, such as plague, torture, witchraft trials, execution, hauntings and curses. A delightful way to spend one's birthday!!
Having said that, it's amazing how much fun you can have in a dungeon!
(SPLASH! That's the sound of my imagination landing in the gutter!)

When we weren't exploring dungeons, we could be found in the bar and restaurant of the Chesford Grange hotel, in Kenlworth, relaxing over a bottle (there or thereabouts) of wine, and plenty of nibbles.
My relaxation method of choice, particularly when I go away and I'm not distracted by 'home' stuff - is colouring, and so my Supernatural colouring book came along for the ride, and this was the outcome...

And so, today, after a pleasant morning wandering around in Stratford-upon-Avon, we headed home this afternoon, and now I'm sitting here writing to you guys, and ploughing through our laundry; and that is the story of my fifty-first birthday!
