What a difference three years makes...

I had a great works night out yesterday, at an industry awards ceremony; dinner, dancing, posh frocks, lots of alcohol - you know the kind of thing.
There was a group of ten of us; three directors, five senior managers, a PA and me, and we had a blast.
It was during a - very brief - moment of downtime that I was able to reflect on the night, and it made me realise how different things are now.
Those of you who haven't been around my Lj for a long time may not be aware that I left my previous job almost three years ago, where a restructuring and management change left me with a manager who clearly thought that I, and everything I did for the company was beneath contempt, and barely even acknowledged my existence. I moved on from that toxic atmosphere to this job where I now have a manager who's supportive and appreciative and makes every day in my work a pleasure. I was at that event with a large part of the senior management team last night purely and simply because they thought I was worth it.
And that really made me appreciate how lucky I am to have fallen into such an amazing organisation!

The event was at Twickenham Rugby Stadium, so we were able to go out and look on the pitch - only look, mind; we weren't allowed to walk on it in high heels!!
