My happiest happy place is at conventions, or meeting up with my fandom friends.  These are the times and places where I feel like I am surrounded by people who 'get' me, and I don't ever feel like I have to put up any shutters or pretence.  I feel like I can truly be 'me'.

Also, there is a nice coffee shop in the village where I live, which turns into a wine bar on Friday evenings.  This is where Mr Dizzo and I go after work on Fridays to reconnect, and chill out over a glass of wine and some delicious antipasti.  It's our ritual to mark the end of our working week.  It's where we go to just be together and chat; no TV, no laptops, no phones … just us.

This is lovely -- you sound like you get a lot of happiness from your environment and the being around likeminded people, which is honestly so healthy and good.

Absolutely - it's so good for the soul, and that's as important as keeping your body healthy!

Obviously I haven't been to your coffee shop -- that would be a huge coincidence. But for sure know the feeling of being with your people at a con.

Conventions are a very singular experience, aren't they. A wonderful experience!

I haven't been to a convention in years, but they were all unique experiences. (Big cons, little cons, multi-fandom, single-media, "academic" cons without any guests where it was all panels discussing the meanings and themes)

Cons and fannish gatherings are chocolate cake for the soul.

My husband and I both work long hours, so having that couple of hours of relaxation and togetherness most Friday eveings is so important for us :)

oh I do love a con - I used to go to many more than I manage now, but I've found a lovely local one that doesn't eat into my holidays or budget and it's like homecoming :)
