I spotted this on my LJ home page, and it looked like fun, so I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58 ... I'm such a little tea-leaf!

1. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

My first Fanfic was a little fun one-shot called Personal Space.  It was posted on Fanfiction.net in May 2010, and it really was the first step on a long and wonderful road for me.  (Including drabbles, I now have 714 stories posted on FF.net.)

2. Is there anything you regret writing?
Not one thing in particular, but when I look back at some of my really early stories, I cringe at the voices and language in them.  I have the Winchester boys saying words like 'shag' and 'bloody hell', doing two-fingered salutes and sounding about as un-American as it's possible to be!

3. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
My favourite fic of my own is and always will be Wish You Were Here.  I got the opportunity to give the boys, and Dean in particular, two weeks of real joy and well-deserved relaxation.  It's about 30,000 words and I rattled through it in about three weeks because I was so engaged with it.

4. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
I have a fic called Finding Bambi.  I set out to write it as a pure hurt/comfort story, and I absolutely love what I did with the hurt comfort element of it, however, about halfway through, and completely out of line with my plan, I decided to introduce a supernatural element.  Now, when I read back, the supernatural element feels forced and like it doesn't belong, and I really don't like it.  I long to rewrite it back to how I originally envisioned it - as a pure hurt comfort tale.

5. What’s your most popular fanfic?
My migraine hurt/comfort one-shot, Just a... has somehow managed to attract around 200 kudos.  This is about ten tiimes more than any of my others!

6. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
I don't have a formula for thinking up titles; they tend to come to me after I've written, but just occasionally a title will come to me during or even before I've started writing.  Usually, I find thinking up titles quite easy, but every now and again my mind goes blank!

7. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
If I'm going to struggle with something, it'll probably be a title

8. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
I've been lucky enough to get amazing art done for several of my stories, and I love all of them.  I have a fairly old fic about a kelpie called Stalking Horse which has never been illustrated, so that would be a nice one to get art for.

9. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
I don't have a specific beta, and don't use one as a general rule, but I have occasionally asked friends to look over a piece of writing if there's anything in it that I'm not confident about.  For instance, I did ask a friend to beta the one and only slash I've ever written, because I definitely wasn't confident about that! In my early years as a fanfic writer, I did ask a nice American lady who was one of my regular readers if she would look over my work before I posted it, specifically to pick out any words/phraseology that was too British//not American enough.  Why don't I use a beta generally?  (Sorry if this sounds arrogant) I have a lot of faith in my ability as a writer, and I always make a point of looking over my work with a fresh pair of eyes the day after, or at least a few hours after I wrote it.  Ultimately, I'm very comfortable with posting it as it is.

10. What inspires you to write?
Supernatural is what inspired me to get back into creative writing, and I will always be grateful to it for rthat.

11. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
When someone tells me I've got the boys' characterisations or voices right, or that something I've written feels like it's come straight out of an actual episode, that always makes me very happy.  As a Brit writing American dialogue for American characters, it's wonderful to hear I'm doing it right.

12. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
No, when I write, I like silence.  Music is a distraction for me, not an inspiration.

Using music while writing is a funny one - song lyrics will often inspire me and give me ideas, but I'm with you on wanting quiet while I actually write. If I do have music on I'll tune it out anyway.

I might have a go at this one when I'm not so brain dead!

It's funny, if I'm drawing or arting in some way, I love a bit of music or even a movie or something on TV, but if I write, I can't have any distractions at all.

Oh my gosh! Thank you for using Americanisms.  Please explain to me what this "div " word means.  And please tell British writers to keep it out of Supernatural fics.  No one in the US uses it.  Sorry, didn't mean to vent on you.        m.       :/

'Div' (or Divvy) basically means 'idiot', and I think it's a British slang word. I've never once heard it used on Supernatural, so I would never use it in any of my stories.

I have a thing where I kinda repeat a song, over and over. If it's inspired my ficcage it gets repeated like a mofo, which drives Steve insane, so I end up putting the headphones in.

Probably for the best :D

I was just saying to Anne-Marie, if I'm arting, I love a bit of music or TV, but if I write, I can't have any distractions at all.

I need the music to even out my scatty brain. Sometimes without the background sounds I just flit and never get anything written, cos my mind runs over itself.

Ah, this was fun! I came to LJ in a bad mood today, and now I feel like doing this meme will cheer me up. :-)

You're the only person I've ever seen have the exact same answer as me on writing to music. I was surprised how many people do; it would be impossible for me. I can barely play simple casual video games to music. :-D

I'm glad to hear this cheered you up!
It's very strange; if I'm doing art, I can listen to music or have the TV on, no problems. But if I'm writing, I have to have silence.

I love finding out about friends writing habits and how they feel about what they've written. I always have music on when I write - I have music on all the time! - and usually play rock music when writing SPN fics as it fits. But I can see that it could be distracting. I love your stories, you always hurt Dean so well! I'm sure I've read Wish You Were Here, but I'll check once AO3 stops playing silly buggers and let's me in!

Clearly, our brains all work in different ways!
