Sad Dizzo.

There's no 100 days of happy post today because I'm not feeling very happy.  At all.

I killed a beautiful fox while I was driving home from work today.  I was driving along, doing about 40, and he was just there - out of nowhere, right in front of me. I didn't even have time to to touch the brake.  I heard and felt the bang as my car hit him head on, and I just hope with all my heart that he died instantly, and didn't suffer.

In over 25 years of driving, it's the first time I've ever run over an animal, and I feel like the worst kind of shit.

I'm so very sorry, little guy.

It is a horrible feeling, I know. I hit a pheasant many years but I still remember how it felt - but there was nothing you could do. It's quite possible he was already ill or injured though, to be wandering across the road like that - foxes are usually much more wary round cars and roads, being much brighter than pea-brained pheasants.

We see loads of dead pheasants on the Isle of Wight - it's such a shame. As you say, they're not the brightest birds, and they never seem to learn :(

Thank you, it is the most horrible thing - I hope that's the first and last animal I ever kill on the road. It's just heartbreaking :(

oh, bb. :-( I'm sorry, and I know the feeling. Several weeks ago I ran over a squirrel--on my birthday. I've hit birds before, too. I always felt terrible, but it's just the circle of life. <3 <3 There was nothing you could've done, and I'm sure it was over so quick he didn't even know it.

Oh, what a horrible thiing to happen on your birthday, I'm so sorry. I've always felt sad when I've seen roadkill as I'm driving by, but to actually be responsible for it, even thought it wasn't intentional or avoidable, it's one of the most horrible upsetting things I've ever experienced.

*huge hugs* It's a horrid feeling hun, I know, but in all honesty if he was wandering out onto the road he was probably already ill, foxes aren't silly animals and they tend to stay off the actual road, they're quite savvy. There was nothing you could do, and swerving at that point would have risked your own life *hugs some more*

I'm so sorry, Jane. It wasn't your fault at all but I can understand why you feel so bad about it. They are such lovely animals and why anyone would chose to hunt and kill them is beyond me. You feel so bad about killing one accidentally, yet there are bastards out there deliberately killing them.

People who kill any animal for sport and entertainment have got something fundamentally wrong with them. I should feel sorry for them but I don't. I hate them.

This poor little guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I sincerely he's the first and only little life I end on the road x
