Sad news ...

I received some sad news for dapplegrey art this week.

Pandora, the lovely lady who was the original subject of my picture 'Best in Show' (below), and the face of dapplegrey art, passed away peacefully on the 7th November at the ripe old age of 32.

Pands was a new forest pony; a gorgeous fiesty girl with personality and attitude to spare, and thanks to the patience and dedication of Helen, her wonderful devoted owner, she recovered from a bad start with undeserving abusive owners, and went on to live a long and happy life.

Now, she'll live on through dapplegrey art.

Yes, it could have been a lot worse, but I'm sad for Helen (Pandora's owner). Eighteen years ago, she took on a horribly broken, abused pony and she devoted her life to rehabilitating her. Poor Helen's pretty broken herself at the moment. :(

yes I'm sure - eighteen years of love is a huge hole in someone's life - I'm just glad it wasn't a hole in yours!

Pandora had the worst start in life, because of the disgusting abusive morons who owned her, but once her last owner, Helen, took her on eighteen years ago, her life changed beyond all recognition and she because a loved and spoiled pony that lived a wonderful life!

Thank you. She's not strictly my loss, she's my friend's loss, but I met and was nipped by Pands several times, she was an adorably stroppy madam who lived a great life after the worst possible start.
I'll miss her!

Which DOES make her your loss too, sweetheart. When I was a kid, my family used to go riding a friend's horses. They were never ours -- we could never afford them -- and when he had to sell them, it broke his and our hearts. We only found out recently the real reason why he did it. He'd claimed he just couldn't afford them any more, but the truth was he had cancer and has since passed from it.

So now I'm sure he's riding my cherished Big Red up there in the sky somewhere, just as I'm sure your horsey friend will be waiting for you and her human parents up there as well. <3
