41: what's the last book you remember really, really loving?

Probably one of the more recent books I read that I really loved was 'Notes from a Small Island' by Bill Bryson.  It's an observation of Britain and the British by an anglophile American, and all the way through I could hear myself saying, 'I do that' or 'I say that'!
It's a beautifully written, witty and wonderful love letter to Britain and all its quirks (of which there are many) from a man who appreciates each and every one of them!

42: do you have a favorite coffee shop? describe it!

Randalls coffee shop (and Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings it turns into a wine bar).  It's a great little independent store, the hub of Lightwater, the little village where I live, and the village would never be the same without it!

43: who was the last person you gazed at the stars with?

Why, Mr D of course!

44: when was the last time you remember feeling completely serene and at peace with everything?

Although my life tends to be hectic and busy - too busy sometimes, I'm happy with my life.  My health is good, I have a great husband who lets me be myself, a great family, awesome friends, hobbies that keep me happy, I have good job, decent money coming in and a roof over my head.  Even though my life isn't peaceful, I'm generally completely at peace with my life.

Serene? now that's another matter.  I don't think I've ever been serene!

45: do you trust your instincts a lot?

I think you have to, don't you?

46: tell us the worst pun you can think of.

Never trust an atom; they make up everything.

47: what food do you think should be banned from the universe?

Mushy peas (blech!)

48: what was your biggest fear as a kid? is it the same today?

I used to be terrified of needles when I was a kid - no idea why, it wasn't like I had health problems that required a lot of shots, but nowadays, I couldn't care less about them!

49: do you like buying CDs and records? what was the last one you bought?

Not really, I'm not really a big music collector.  I download the odd song from ITunes and thats about it.
The last CD/album I bought was probably a soundtrack, possibly Spamalot or Priscilla Queen of the Desert

50: what's an odd thing you collect?

I never really set out to specifically collect these things, but I love pencil and art themed nick-nacks.  I have two pencil handbags, a pencil rucksack, a pencil necklace, an artists pallette necklace, a paint-themed hoodie and two little business card holders in the shape of benches made out of pencils.

This is a song I remember very well from my early childhood; Brotherhood of Man - Save all your Kisses for Me.  It was Britain's Eurovision Song Contenst winner in 1976 (I was eight), and it was my Grandad's favourite song.  I went on holidy to Belgium with my Grandparents that year, and he was getting up and putting it on the hotel juke box every single night, sometimes twice a night.

It was only later in life that I heard the song again and really listened to the words, and it hit me like a ton of bricks when I realised why my Grandad loved the song so much.  The last line in the song is:

Don't you dare me to stay 'cause you know you've got to save
Your kisses for me save all your kisses for me
Bye bye baby bye bye don't cry honey don't cry
Won't you save them for me even though you're only three

The man is singing to his child or grandchild - a child he loves.

So now, when I hear this song, I think of my dear Grandad.  Which is sad, but lovely too.

Thank you for the rec concerning Notes From A Small Island. I am currently in the process of purchasing it after reading why you loved it so much. It sounds like a book I am going to absolutely LOVE. I love humor books where every other page has me laughing and agreeing with the author that yes, I, too, think or have done this (Dave Barry is my absolute fave in that category), and I adore learning more about London. It's one of my favorite places though I'm not likely to ever get to visit there thanks to customs' stupid rules regarding my kids. I actually read a tour book of sorts, London A to Z, that I absolutely LOVED just earlier this year. Definitely looking forward to getting to read this one!!

Wow, that's great. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!
I really hope you are able to get over to London one day - it's a fascinating place with an incredible long and chequered history - plus it's my home city, so that's got to be worth something :)

I absolutely love BB, he has such an adoration of all things British but isn't afraid to take the Michael where needed, and he's clever!

I was going to respond intelligently to everything else but the atom pun made me chuckle so hard my brain stopped working, lol!

Well, that song certainly takes me back in time, too! And the fashions are so awful, but fun.

I love the atom pun, I hadn't heard it before, so funny! And I love your coffee shop, it's great to have an independent one that's the centre of the village for you - Costa have taken over in so many places. I love Bill Bryson, his books are so funny, but I also love how much he loves our country and cares about history and the environment.
