Real life has been very distracting recently, so I've got very behind on this meme, so today I'm going to post numbers 22 and 23 ...




Day 22 - A song that moves you forward

For me, this is 'Solsbury Hill' by Peter Gabriel.

It's believed that PG wrote this when he was making the difficult decision to leave Genesis, and the lyrics are full of metaphors for discontent, insecurity and apprehension about an unknown future, but ultimately it ends on a high: 'I will show another me, today I don't need a replacement, I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant'.  This song sends a great message and I find it really inspirational whenever I have a difficult or scary decision to make.

And it's a great song to boot!

Day 23 - A song you think everyone should listen to

Going back to my beloved Queen here!

This song, 'Who wants to live forever?' appeals immensely to my humanist principles.  It's a simple little song, but it gives such a powerful message: 'This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us'.

And that, right there, is everything.  This song is saying, stop.  Just stop.  Make the most of the time you have; Stop and smell the flower, enjoy the rainbow, drink the wine. Yes, of course, we all have things we HAVE to do, and no-one is saying don't do them,
but this song is almost begging you to make time for the things you WANT to do.

And if that's not a powerful message, I don't know what is!

Ah. you have chosen two of my favourite songs! I love the beat to Solsbury Hill, and the lyrics are beautiful, as is Peter Gabriel's voice. And yes, Who Wants to Live Forever has a wonderful message, but I love it because it's on the Highlander soundtrack and I adore that film!

I love Peter Gabriel. I was not aware of the meaning behind the song of Solsbury Hill. When his first solo album came out, I loved it, but wasn't all that aware of the difficulty he had breaking away from Genesis. I didn't know a lot about the group at the time. Peter has definitely survived and thrived out on his own.

Queen - what is there not to love about this group. They are also one of my favorites. I loved Freddie's voice. and this song - such a great song. Although whenever I hear it I can't help but think of the TV Series Highlander. That song was played on numerous episodes, as it was kind of an unspoken theme song for the show. A great song for a great show.
