Mr D stepped outside the front of the house to take the bins out for the dustmen, and found these two little guys lurking in the shadows behind the bin.

They were bone dry and dusty, and all in all, it didn't look like a very salubrious place for a pair of toads to be living.

So I carried them out to the back of the house where we have our little pond, and deposited both of them on the edge of it; we'd barely turned our backs for thirty seconds before the pair of them were in, and looking up out of the water at us.

I figured they'd be more comfortable there, and they'd get lots of juicy pondskaters and other annoying buzzy things to eat.  I can't deny that part of me is hopeful that they might make themselves at home and get up to some toady naughties to spawn some more little toads because I just think that frogs and toads are sooo cute, and I would just love to play host to a little community of them.

So that's the big news from Dizzo-land today.   Nothing earth-shattering I'm afraid, but there you go!   So good night, thank you, and ribbet-ribbet!

Toads are cute??? Okay, then, toads are cute. So, what is the difference between a toad and a frog? I do love to listen to the frogs ribbeting and crickets chirping at night. For awhile there was this rather large, at least I guessed he was large based upon his deep ribbet, croaking at night along with the crickets. I love falling asleep to the night sounds of crickets and such. I hope you get some melodious sounds from your toads.

Frogs are greener and smoother and tend to be more streamlined, they have longer legs and webbed feet.

I love the sound of frogs and crickets too. We don't tend to hear them as much where iI am because it's not the right environment, but I hear them a lot at my Mum and Dad's place.

It's not easy being green. Glad you were there for the little guys.

I'm glad you found these 2 little toads and I'm sure they're very comfortable in the pond :-))

Well, it didn't take long before they were both in it. I don't know what the fish made of them!

I love frogs and toads! Have you looked up what kind they are?

Edited to say - looks like they are common toads. I wonder what they were doing out by your bins!

I think they're common toads too, I live in the wrong environment for Natterjack toads.
I've no idea what they were doing around our wheelie bins, but they were likely to get run over if they weren't careful!

Yep, something fat and warty shouldn't be cute, but somehow it is!

Ahahaha - I give you Jack Black - shouldn't be cute but is ;) Same principle.

I'm always surprised when frogs and toads are found so far from water - where have they been?? Have they no sense of direction?? But thank goodness Mr D found them and you've given them a new - wet - home!

I have no idea where they came from. I know toads aren't quite so dependent on water as frogs, but even so, they were likely to get squashed if they hung around our wheelie bins, so I'm glad we were able to relocate them!

Well it's certainly a more toad-friendly environment than our bins!

I don't know what the fish will make of them, but there's enough room in and around the pond for everyone!!

Sounds like your new little friends had quite an epic journey, I'm so pleased that Mr Dizzo rescued them from by the bin.

Well, if they'd have hung around the wheelie bins, they were at a big risk of getting run over. I think they're far safer where they are!

Who needs human children when you can play host to a community of toad babies? :D
