I've been away visiting my parents this weekend, hence my more-or-less radio silence oer the last couple of days.

It was my Dad's birthday on Friday, so the visit was mainly to spend some quality time with Mum and Dad for his birthday and to take him his birthday presents.  I bought him two books, on subject matter that I knew he would enjoy - The Titanic, and British History.  In all my years, I have never once seen my Dad read a fiction book; he devours factual books like a man starved, but fiction leaves him completely cold - weird huh?

But I also took him some treats to enjoy while he was reading his new books.  A few bars of Cadbury's chocolate (best chcolate in the world, apparently), and a couple of tubes of Pringles. Smokey Bacon Pringles.

It seems that such exotic fare hasn't made it over the Solent to the Isle of Wight yet, so my Dad's eyes lit up when he saw the smokey bacon Pringles - he didn't even know they existed, and I've spent the weekend listening to him munching on them and making the sort of happy noises you really don't want to hear your Dad making.

Now I have a regular order for each visit.  Half a dozen tubes of Smokey Bacon Pringles each time, or I won't be allowed in the house!

I'm either an awesome daughter for inroduciing my father to such a taste sensation - or a terrible one for leading him into temptation!

The jury's out!

;)

Apparently it's a man thing, reading non fiction. Not that women don't read it, but a lot of men don't read fiction, they want FACTS. Dunno why. This world seems either awful or just awful dull to me, fiction puts that right! :D

I like a balance between the two, and it's very true that truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction, but yes. I need my Lord of the Rings, Hitchhikers, Watership Down, Stephen King et al!

Awww, look at you, enabling your father's new addiction. Beautiful family bonding moment, there. :)

Hell, I've never heard of Smokey Bacon Pringles. I may look for them next time I'm in the store.

Isn't it awesome when someone likes something that much?

My mom and dad were married 20 years. He absolutely LOVED my mom's chocolate chip cookies, and he loved her mom's (Babcia) fruit filled cookies. Admittedly, so does everyone else (that's why there was a big cheer when I learned how to make them). Anyway, every time I go visit him Babcia sends him two dozen cookies. And at Christmas time, he not only gets that, but gets two dozen of my mom's chocolate chip cookies (since that's the only time of year she makes them anymore). It's so nice to see his eyes light up, and how much he he savors every cookie. One of their dogs gets fed a bite or two when he normally eats something. He actually tell the dog "no, these are daddy's special cookies" lol

definitely not. and what's really extra special about that is how easy and non-confrontational their divorce was. they're really good friends.

Happy bday to your Dad!:D

I've never heard of bacon Pringles. XD Maybe cuz I only eat the plain ones, but I guess if you like bacon they must be awesome, judging by Dad's reaction! :D

LOL! I love your parents, and you, obviously. I'm glad he had such a wonderful birthday and you provided him with such exotic treats ;) Those noises are disturbing though, aren't they? I have to listen to my mum make them when she eats those fruit salad squishy sweets!

I do think men have a proclivity for more factual type things. My dad was really into war books, especially WWI and WWII. I also have a couple brothers who are really into that kind of stuff too. They read these really heavy type books, stuff that I would never even dream of looking at, let alone reading. All way above my head. Give me non-fiction any day.

I have not seen the Smokey Bacon Pringles. Will have to look for them on my next trip to the grocery store. They sound interesting. I too make yummy noises if I am eating something really good. Family hasn't seemed to mind, since I try to keep it on the quieter side.

As I said to Anne-Marie, I like a balance between the two. I couldn't just read factual books without missing fiction and vice-versa.

I hope you find your smoky bacon Pringles. They really are divine!
