One thing I have learned about my new job is that we work hard; we definitely work hard, but we play hard too.

Last night saw the third and final of my works Christmas parties, and I have to say, I've loved all of them - I haven't partied like I've partied over the last couple of weeks, in years!

I'm not sure what my liver has to say on the subject, but it'll have to wait a few more days until January, and then it can luxuriate in my annual January detox.

Yesterday's 'do' started at 9.30 am on Camberley stattion, meeting my colleague Anita for the train trip up to London. And celebrations began en route with a bottle of pink fizz to start our day - must have a word with South West Trains about Camberley station - not the most salubrious environment for a champagne breakfast!

But anyway, when we arrived at the venue - the Haymarket Hotel (very classy) - we sat down to lunch and first order of the day was secret santa.

Normally, I'm used to opening a fairly generic gift such as a candle or some smellies,so I wasn't aiming high when I opened my gift but, on this occasion, how wrong I was. Some sweet person had obviously done their homework and knew that I was into sci-fi, because this is what I got ...

So, I know what I'll be wearing at London Comic-con next year!

Then we went on to the hotel bar for drinks and cocktails ... let's just say the manufacturers of Bombay Sapphire did very well out of me last night, and a great evening was had by all!

I'm not going to lie, I did have a sore head, and a mouth like a turkish wrestler's jockstrap this morning, which I was kind of expecting, but somewhat puzzlingly, I also had a very sore, stiff and bruised big toe on my left foot. Even now, I have no idea how I acquired said toe injury!!??!!

All my lovely colleagues assure me that I didn't kick any of them last night, so I guess that is destined to remain one of life's little mysteries!

Oh well, work is done, parties are done. It's time to relax ...
