My two favourite countries to visit are Iceland and New Zealand - yes, pretty random, I know.

I'm not a sun-seeker or a beach lover, so the traditional holiday destinations such as Spain and Florida don't really do it for me.  I love places that are unusual and interesting and possibly a little bit oddball, and both these countries fit that desctiption perfectly.

I love New Zealand, not only because it is a spectacularly beautiful country, but because I have a lot of treasured friends, and two Goddaughters, who live there - on my last visit there, I had eleven households to visit!

The landscape is so young and so savage, it's breathtaking, and I still have so much of it to see.

And of course, no visit to New Zealand would be complete withouta bit of Lord of the Rings nerding.  This picture was taken at the Putangirua Pinnacles, otherwise known as the Paths of the Dead!

Although, unlike New Zealand, I don't have any personal links with Iceland, I love it simply for it's uniqueness and quirkiness.  It has a similarly raw and active landscape to New Zealand, and anywhere where you can see the northern lights is a great place in my book!

I believe Hallsgrimakirkja, the high church in Reykjavik, is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen.



And let's face it, even if the landscape and the architecture don't impress you, any country that has a museum dedicated entirely to appreciation of the penis has got to be worth visiting!!!

So let's hear it for Iceland and New Zealand!
