What is something I miss?



This is a very easy answer.  The thing I miss more than anything in the world is my Grandparents.

I was extremely close to my Grandparents on my Dad's side.  They were only in their mid forties when I was born, so I was lucky enough to have them around for a long time.  I was 35 when my Nan passed away, and 41 when my Grandad joined her.  I was their only grandchild, and my Nan always joked that I was the daughter my Grandad always wanted and never got, so to say I was doted on was an understatement!

In return I doted on them too, and I remember telling a friend that losing them was like a dress rehearsal for losing my parents.  That's how much it hurt.

I have so many fond memories of them that I'll always carry with me, and I'll never stop missing them.

This is my lovely Nan and Grandad with Barry and me on our wedding day.

Aww, lovely post. I'd lost all four of my grandparents by the time I was about 15 so I often find myself wondering about them now I'm married, have kids etc. I have a great aunt (my grandma's sister) who is still alive and turning 90 this year so I'm very close to her as she never had children herself.

I realise how lucky I was to have had my Grandparents until so late in my life. I'm sure your Great Aunt can tell you lots of interesting stories from her 90 years of life experience!

That's a gorgeous photo of you with your grandparents on your wedding day, it's lovely that you had such a great relationship with them. It's a cliche, but our loved ones live on in our memories. *hugs*

Thank you. I had it made to my own design because we got married in a registry office and I thought the full merangue would be complete overkill!

I was so proud of my grandparents that day. My Nan always looked petite and elegant, but especially so that day, and my Grandad looked so dapper!

How lucky and fortunate for you that you had your grandparents for as long as you did. I never really knew my grandparents and I always feel that I missed out on something special. So nice that you had them as long as you did.

It's so sad that you never got to know your Grandparents. My Barry was the same as you; all his grandparents had died before he was born, so my Grandparents made a fuss of him. They were very fond of him, and he was of them

How nice for Barry that he at least received some kind of grandparent love. I had one grandmother that passed away when I was 7. I have a few memories of her, but not a whole lot. Enough to know, though, that I would have loved to have more time with her.
