I'm working away from my office for the next couple of days, at one of our remote sites.  So I'm sitting in my hotel room after a six hour drive to get here (one and a half hours of which was spent sitting in traffic!)

Honestly, I don't do this journey very often, but when I do, it always reinforces the growing respect I have for people who drive for a living because after it, I'm stiff and I'm physically tired, but mentally wound up, so I need to chill out for a while before even attempting to sleep.

And what better way to chill out than to spend some time enjoying the sight of Dean doing what I intend to be doing in a little while (only he's doing it far more prettily than I ever could!)

Behold, the delight that is sleeping Dean!

And just in case you thought I'd forgotten it ...

*drum roll*

As if ... !!!

Blimey, I'd have gone by train if at all possible. I can't be doing with driving for more than a couple of hours these days. Too tiring. Where are you?

I did consider travelling by train, but that threw up all sorts of problems about the cost of parking the car at Reading station for two days and how to get from the station at the other end to the hotel then from the hotel to my workplace the following morning. Pain in the arse, but it was just easier all round to go by car!

I'm sort of in your old neck of the woods - Southport. It should normally take about 4 hours (it's 230 miles), but with a couple of quick pit stops and all the traffic on the M6, it ended up taking 6 hours!!! :(

I've got to do it all again on Thursday to get home ... *sigh*

I'd still have gone by train - public transport up that way is pretty good, generally speaking. Still, I can see why you'd want to take the car. Hopefully your return trip will go smoother! I've only really been to Southport twice but my dad used to live there when he was a boy. I don't suppose you'll get a chance, but Formby's worth a look - the beach has the Gormley statues and nearby is the red squirrel reserve. :D
