The continuing adventures of my Dad :/
Sep. 6th, 2025 02:58 pm My Dad has been told that his Vitamin B12 levels are low and that he needs VB12 injections. Usually they're administered every three months.
When I was down at their place last weekend, I asked him when his first one was.
His response? "Not yet, I haven't decided if I'm going to do it or not."
What the hell???
I said, "what's there to decide? You're low in Vitamin B12, and you need it. What do you need to decide?"
He said he couldn't see the point, he's fine, he doesn't need any more bloody injections. But I pointed out to him that he's always tired, he's been going to bed for a few hours in the afternoon for a few weeks now, and that's probably a symptom of low VB12.
Mum chimed in and said that she's been saying this for weeks, and I could see things were starting to get heated - I think she's really at the end of her rope. I really thought they were going to come to blows a couple of times while I was there!
He said to me, "you don't know if this will make any difference."
I know it was a low blow, but I replied to him - "Grandad used to have VB12 injections and he used to say he felt really good afterwards." My Grandad was Dad's dad.
Eventually, he grudgingly gave in to pressure from Mum and me, and phoned the surgery but made a big show of their automated system saying he was 9th in the queue, slamming the phone down - "I'm not waiting that long. I'll try again tomorrow."
Then he started putting obstacles in the way - he can't do it Monday or Thursday afternoons because of his quiz. He can't do it Tuesdays because of the art club he's in. He doesn't want early morning, he doesn't want late afternoon because of his dinner... Basically there's about a fourteen minute window on Wednesdays and Fridays that he's prepared to go, otherwise tough tit.
I called Mum on Tuesday and she said he hadn't booked an appointment by then. I'll try again this weekend and speak to him directly to ask the question and get my head bitten off.
It appears I need to gird my loins, the next battle is on the horizon. :(
