I and several friends, amberdreamsheavenli24, Wendy, Natalie and Chris, sallied forth to London on Saturday to attend for the Love of Fantasy con at the Excel centre in London.  It was a multi-fandom con with lots of Supernatural representation, but there was also a heavy Lord of the Rings presence too, and so I decided to take the opportuniity and do a spot of Lord of the Rings nerding.

Saturday was a quiet day.  I only had one photo booked and that was Jared.

I had the most wonderful interaction with Jared.  When I stepped up for my photo, Jared saw me and grinned so wide!  He spread his arms and beckoned me into a hug, os - of course - I obliged! When I was standing there hugging Jared, I realised he had turned toward me and away from the photographer so she couldn't take the photo, and I thought 'shit, this isn't the pose!  He's genuinely hugging me, he's genuinely happy to see me!'  He muttered something like '"it's so great to see you, how are you?" and I replied "all the better for seeing you,"  After he'd replied "me too," he turned back to the photographer and we got into position for the photo.

It's fair to say I was walking on air for the rest of the day!

The rest of the day was just me wandering around, looking at merch and chilling out back in the hotel room before meeting up with the gang for dinner.

Sunday was set to be a much busier day, and I started off with two photo ops that I was sharing with amberdreams

First of all we was the four hobbits.  We'd discussed the photo beforehand and we decided to borrow Wendy's giant inflatable doughnut and deliver a second breakfast for the hobbits.  They had a good laugh over the doughnut and we had a lot of fun with the picture - especially as I stepped back and nearly fell through the curtain at the back of the photo booth!

Afterward, we jumped into another queue ready for our phogto op with Sir Ian McKellan.  I was so excited for this one, I mean it's not every day you can say you've met an honest to goodness legend.

We were both aware that Sir Ian was a very vocal advocate of gay rights, and amberdreams had recently discovered a 'straight allies' pride flag, so we took that along.

Sir Ian asked about the flag and was fascinated when he saw it.  We explained what it was and I said 'we're your straight allies'.  He smiled and said 'and I'm a gay ally'.  He was sweet and humble and delightful.  You can't see it under the flag but he was holding our hands.

When we finished and left the photo booth, it's fair to say that I was overhelmed byt the interaction and had a little cry!

Later in the day, I had the four hobbits' autographs.  By now, as is prone to happen, organisation had started to go a bit to shit, and I spent the best part of the next four hours in queues for those autographs.

The interactions were lovely amd the guys were very appreciative of the artwork I'd done, but by the end of the four hours, I was done in. I was hot, tired, and every part of me ached!

It was time to go home!

After the LOTR panel, I said my goodbyes to the gang and headed home.  When I got there Mr Dizzo met me with a bottle of wine and a bowl of cold water for my aching feet.  And as much as I love my wine, I nearly took his arm off for the bowl of water!!

All the queueing aside, it sounds like it was a lovely time and the pictures came out great. Such wonderful interactions with Jared and Sir Ian McKellan especially!
