DAY 9: Rec Us Your Newest Thing

I’ve recently started watching a series called The Detectorists.

It’s apparently been around since 2014, and ran until 2022, but true to form, oblivious me didn’t discover it until last week.

I’ve only watched the first five episodes, but I’m really enjoying it.

It’s about two guys who are eccentric metal detecting enthusiasts and it’s such adorably self-effacing, slightly dark British humour. The whole series is about their never ending quest to break the tedium of their lives by finding saxon treasure, and how their obsession impacts their lives.

The main characters are played by Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook, and they are great as the two long time friends, socially awkward, nerdy metal detectorists.

The series runs for three seasons and 20 episodes, and I’m only five episodes in, but highly recommended!

Ah, I know the feeling. It seems like every time I discover a new show to love, it's always long after the show has ended and the fandom has died away XD
