My lovely HR girls, plus one (Rob, our deliciously sweet IT guru, honorary HR girl for the night) ventured forth to the Oval Cricket Ground on Friday night to watch Surrey v Somserset  Twenty20 floodlit cricket match.

Now, of course, Britain has been basking in 30 degree heat for the last two months.  The whole nation is burned and barren as Hades,  wilting and shrivelling, as week after week has passed us by without a drop of moisture or a cloud in the sky.

So of course, the one night I want to go and watch Cricket, it pisses down with rain for three hours!

This of course, also meant, that after weeks of cloudless skies, there was absolutely no hope of seeing yesterday`s blood moon behind masses of thick dark clouds.  But, hey ho ... such is life!

We did eventually get some cricket after the rain abated, and we eventually got a ten-over-a-side crash bang wallop knockabout, which - although short - was very entertaining.

And here are the mugshots :

A study in elegance and sophistication

The Oval`s world famous landmark Gasometer looks rather lovely against a lavender-tinted twilight sky.

Play`s underway at last!

The night sky is such a rich, stunning colour as the clouds start to clear

The gorgeous HR girls - Rob (honorary), kathryn, Karen, yours truly, Liz

Ah, you HR girls are such 'A study in elegance and sophistication'! Great pics, I'm pleased your enjoyed it despite the downpour and the clouds obscuring the blood moon - so flippin' typical!

Great pics! We've had similar weather but 6 to 7 degrees above yours. We just went through a typhoon that cooled it down a bit.

Looks like a decent crowd in spite of the weather - and you were probably glad of the warmth those Surrey furry hats provided!

I could only wish for 30 celsius temps here. Our summer has been more in the upper 90s, which is 35 and above for you. It's been ghastly. Every now and then we have temps that cool down around 30 or below, but then we go right back up to the hot hottest. I'm not ready for summer to be over, but I am damn ready for these hot temps to be over. So many things I had wanted to do but I ain't doing them in this horrid heat. I'm purposely working late so I can stay in some air conditioning for a couple more hours at night before I go into my hot apartment.

Anywho. Looks like fun was had by all at the Cricket game. Rain or not, those of us who are familiar with the liquid sunshine don't let that dampen our spirits when it comes to having fun.

Ooh, that seems like a very dramatic way to get cooler weather. I hope no-one was hurt or inconvenienced during the typhoon!

And yes, the furry hats were very welcome :D

Oh, I don't envy you. here in the south of the UK, 25 is our summer norm, so to have had weeks up in the low 30's is just hideous, especially when English houses don't generally have aircon, so we've just all been wilting.

The cricket was great fun, and one thing us Brits can do is not be put off by rain. We get too much of the damn stuff!!

I totally get the rain. You can always tell when someone is new to Oregon or not a natural is when it is barely sprinkling, or we are having a mist rain and the people are using umbrellas. You don't use umbrellas here, only when there is a huge heavy downpour. Otherwise, just deal with the rain. I'm sure you are probably the same way.

Yea, I don't have A/C in my apartment either. I do have a window unit, which was finally put in my bedroom. So now I can finally sleep in some cooler temps, whereas the rest of my apt is sweltering, I at least have one room that is cool.
