I do not think the fandom will dwindle much. There will always be an ebb and flow in any fandom, but remember Star Trek started in the 60s. Sure, it has people who come and go, but there are quite a few dedicated to it.
However, I am glad you found the fandom and that it gave you the courage you needed to continue doing the things you love.
