December 25 → a photo of you and your family

I love this picture of us with my Mum and Dad on our wedding day in 1994

December 26 → talk about politics or current events this year

I don't really know what I can say about politics.  Here in the UK it's a trainwreck.  Our government is a bunch of millionaire sociopaths who don't have the faintest notion of how 'real' people live.  This is the clownshow that brought us Brexit and has brought the country to its knees by allowing rampant profiteering to run riot because they only care about their rich donors.  Our PM did a photo op at a food distribution centre for the homeless just before Christmas and actually asked a guy who came there for a meal if 'he worked in business?'    Words fail me.

My own representative (or MP 'Member of Parliament') as we call them here, is a rubber-faced prat called Michael Gove who has been at several different ministries during his political life and failed at all of them.  He's never lived in our constituency, and never seemingly lifted a finger to help us.  But people still vote for him... *sigh*

We seem to be getting through prime ministers at an alarming rate at the moment.  Liz Truss was famously prime minister for 44 days over the Autumn.  Normally I'm the first person to support a woman who has made it to the top in a man's world, but seriously, the poor woman was the ultimate pole turtle.   In other words she was a turtle balanced on top of a tall pole:  she didn't get up there by herself, some other arsehole put her up there, she didn't know what to do while she was there, and she was elevated beyond her ability to function.  Although it pains me to say it about any tory, I almost felt sorry for the woman.

I still maintain that the number ten mouser, Larry the Cat, would make a better PM than any of them. I'd vote for him!

I really hope that at our next general election we can get a change of government, it's sorely overdue.  But that's two years away. Until then... I just don't watch the news because it's too depressing.

I've got to share with you the sad tale of our dinner on Christmas Eve!!  😂😂

We were having green beans, a gammon joint and Mr D was using this as an opportunity to try out his roast potatoes ahead of Christmas day.

Mr D was cooking, and I was sitting in the living room when I suddenly heard a massive crash.  I ran out into the kitchen and the gammon joint was on the floor; it had apparently skidded halfway across the room leaving a trail of juice and gravy behind it. Apparently it had slipped out of Mr D's hands as he was taking it out of the oven.   The pyrex dish that it had been cooking in was smashed to bits and there were shards of glass everywhere.  Barry and I picked the gammon up off the floor to see if we could clean it up and salvage it, but it was full of glass fragments, so it was inedible; we couldn't even put it out for the foxes. 😕.

At this point, the green beans and the roast potatoes were all done and ready, so in the end, I had a dinner of roast potatoes and green beans - for the record, they were beautifully cooked.  Mr D managed to find one slice of ham lurking at the back of the fridge to add to his dinner.

Definitely one of the more memorable meals I've ever had!!!
