If I do this there are going to be a lot of boring answers LOL!
I didn't know you left school at 16! Did you go to sixth form college?

No, I hated school. I just wanted to leave the whole time behind me and get out of that toxic environment to make my own way in the world. Pretty much from my first day at secondary school I'd made my mind up that I didn't want to extend the school experience a day longer than I absolutely had to.

I had got my English O level when I was fourteen so I had that plus a typing qualification to my name, so I guessed I'd have a bit of a headstart on other school leavers like me who were waiting for their O level results. I left school on 21st June 1984 and started my first job about a month later. After a while, I started day release college. In the next three or four years I went on to get two A levels, one at night school and then the second through distance learning.

Ah I see! I thought you had more qualifications - good on your younger self for knowing what was right for you and going out there to get it. *bravo!*

Was your office junior job after school a fulltime job? As you probably know, schools here and in the States/Canada, highschool goes till the 18th year. I cannot imagine graduating at 16. That was when I actually started studying LOL!

We had a teacher or two from Australia who told us they start school one year earlier〜at five years old〜so they graduate at 17. Even then, depending on the individual, they didn't quite seem ready to be out in the world. I would not have been at that age, that is for sure.

Yes, it was full time, which was what I wanted. I didn't enjoy school, and just wanted to go out and make my way in the world. So I left at the first possible opportunity that I was legally allowed to, and I never looked back.

Schools here in the UK, now have to go on until 18, but back when I left school (1984) you could leave school legally at 16. Most kids stayed on until they'd completed their O Levels (final compulsory education exams) and then finished, and either left school or went on to further education.

I finished my maths O level at 12.30 pm on the 2st June 1984 and was gone by 1pm!!

Ah, good old Nik Kershaw, I loved him back in the day and saw him in concert once. I still like his music and his vids were great, too.

He was a good little performer, our Nik. With the emphasis on 'little'!!

Lucky you for being able to graduate at 16. I would have loved to be able to leave High School at that age. Although I wouldn't have been emotionally or mentally ready to leave home at that time, it still would have been nice to either work full time or start some pre-college courses locally. At least it wouldn't have been a waste, which is what I think my last 2 years of school were.
