Because I'm such a fussy cow!

As soon as I'd scanned Mick's picture yesterday, I knew I was 95% happy with it, but there was just something that was off.  At first I couldn't see it, but then after walking away for a couple of hours, I found it; his nose.  His nose was just too aquiline, too Roman!

So tonight, I've been havinng a little fiddle about with it, and I've given his nose a bit more 'roughness' - Mick's nose is slightly crooked, it looks a bit 'lived in', maybe Adam has broken it at some point in the past - how careless!!!

Anyway, here is my updated version of Mick (with the original version for comparison!)

Mark II

Much better! Now the tip of his nose is more 3D - it was too flat before as well as askew. You've caught his slightly mournful expression nicely.

I thought so, I was so much happier with it after I'd made the change!
Thank you :)

It does look better even though its only a slight difference, it does change his face completely and looks more like Mick on the show.
(feel free to ignore as I'm not an artist)

*hugs*

No, I totally agree with what you've said!
Thank you :)

Oh yes, that is better! You are fussy in a good way!

Mr D might disagree with you there :D

He does look better... *is completely blown away by how you managed to fix it* (You work in pastels, ne? I never knew it was possible to fix a pastel drawing. XD)

[identity profile] dizzojay.livejournal.com 2017-09-06 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Once a pastel drawing is 'fixed', that is sprayed and smudge-proofed, you can still make tiny, small tweaks to it, but you can't make any big changes because you can't rub anything out. I would never recommend changing a pastel after it's fixed unless it's unavoidable. However, I hadn't fixed this yet because I had a little nagging doubt in my mind that something wasn't right, so I left it unfixed because I figured I might be fiddling with it again!

I knew you can spray stuff on it so it wouldn't smudge & it's good to know that small tweaks can be made once it's "fixed," but anything else, you need to leave it "unfixed" until you're satisfied so you can make major changes. Thanks! I learned something new! :D That's why I like to play around digitally, it's easy to go back & tweak things, especially if you keep things on separate layers. So if I was drawing Mick, for example, his face-shape & coloring would be one layer, facial features another, clothes another, plus background. Any tweaks could then be made on a new layer (If I stupidly forget what layer I was on & put things on a layer they shouldn't be. XD), or I could go back to the layer I need & change it there. :D

I didn't notice the nose, to be honest, I was too amused by that twitchy top lip, but yes, it looks much better now :) ♥

Ididn't spot it straight away, I just knew something was a little 'off'. I just needed to walk away and come back to it with a fresh perspective and it just jumped out at me!
Glad you like him!

You're not fussy you're a perfectionist, and this shows how good you are.

Thank you :)
It was just bugging me, and I just had to leave it for a while and come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes!
