100 Days of Happiness - Day 3

Some of you may recall I've mentioned my friend Jane here before.  Jane and I have known each other since the year dot - back to preschool times.  We're the same age, all bar three months, and I don't remember a time when we weren't a significant part of each others' lives.

Jane's going through a tough time at the moment.  Her husband is quite a bit older than her, and he has Alzheimers which is progressing relentlessly, and is very wearing for her as his carer, particularly as she has health issues of her own to deal with.

Because of her situation, it's been almost a year since Jane and I have been able to actually get together, and that's far too long.  so we arranged an afternoon out in London today, and I surprised her by bringing Mr D along.

Jane and Mr D adore each other!  When we met at Waterloo station, I met her alone, and he crept up behind her - her face was an absolute picture :)

So, here are a few pics of a very happy day!!

And here is poor old Big Ben, silenced for four years as it undergoes huge but necessary renovations.

It was so lovely to see Jane again. We've been friends virtually since birth, and that will never ever change!

How wonderful for her to have you both. FAMILY is crucial
at times like this.

We've been friends for so long. We've been there for each other during the best and worst times of each others' lives!

So sorry to hear about your friends situation. It is never easy caring for someone with Alzheimers. My mother cared for my father for years as his dementia got worse. Not only did my father's health get worse, but as my mother continued to care for him, we noticed that the stress and daily wear and tear on her, as his caregiver, was sucking the life out of her. Once my father faintly passed my mother was never the same. It was the beginning of the end for her. I hope your friend is able to have some help as she cares for her husband, it's a life draining experience. It's good that she was able to get away for even just a day and relax and have some fun. My best wishes to your friend.

I'm so sorry to read about your experiences. I know what Jane is going through is draining and soul-destroying, and it's so sad to see her going through it, especially as she has serious health problems of her own.

We try to be there for Jane whenever she needs us, I like to think that our few hours on Saturdy gave her a much needed respite!

I am sure that her adventures with you were very helpful. Just to be away for a short time from the burdens of caring for someone like that is strengthening. To not have to worry and enjoy oneself a little is a good thing. I bet it will help sustain her in the coming days. Anytime one can be away from the burden and responsibility, if even for a little bit, to be around others and feed off of their strength is a positive thing.
