A blast from the past

I went to see my Mum and Dad at the weekend, and my Dad showed me something long forgotten that he'd dug out from an old load of papers while he was looking for something to do with insurance!

This is about forty years old, and I remember seeing it when I was a kid.  My dad drew it in a lunch break; he was a printer at the time, and working at a company in London that printed food packaging, and this was drawn on an old bit of cardboard he picked up off the floor.  All he had at the time was a blue ballpoint pen and a pencil.

Apparently he was inspired by a picture in a newspaper that someone had left on the canteen table.

How lovely that he kept it too!

I've kept some of his old artwork too. I love looking at it from time to time :)

I can see where you got your talent from! What an awesome pic Dad did! :D

He had a real talent. Very different to my style of art, but really good. I only wish he'd had the confidence in himself to do something more with it.

He definitely does! *nods* My sister's art style is different to mine, so I can see that. Awe... Sometimes people enjoy it more as a hobby than as something to make money with. Like I had no problem drawing stuff for myself or my friends, but get me to do my art homework & all the fun went out of it. So maybe Dad wasn't a lack of confidence, but more of a fear he'd lose the fun aspect of art.

Wow! That's amazing! simply amazing!

Considering he only did it in 45 minutes, I completely agree with you!

Looks like you got your talent from your dad :D

Absolutely, he's my mentor - he's my inspiration and my greatest supporter!

I can see where you get your artistic side from, this is amazing, especially as all done with a biro! Does your dad still draw/paint?

It's amazing isn't it. He doesn't really draw any more, he's devoted himself to supporting me and dapplegrey art, by doing a lot of the background things that I'd struggle to find time for, such as getting prints made and cutting mounts.

He's still always the first person I look to for advice though!

It's a shame he doesn't draw any longer, but it's lovely that he's so supportive of your art.

I think so too!

I'm so glad he did, it's such a lovely memory.
