Livejournal and Me

There's been a lot of hoo-hah about these new TOS that we were all confronted with earlier this week.

Now, I'm not a lawyer, and I'm the world's worst at reading smallprint (I don't ever remember reading the terms of service that were in place when I joined Lj in 2010), so although I'll admit these latest T&Cs dont sound particularly friendly, I'm not about to start panicking yet.

Livejournal is my online home, and I'm not about to be driven out of it by some heavy-handed legalese, until such a time as they shut me down, or until staying here becomes too risky to justify.

Having said that, I do now have a dreamwidth account.  It's really just a back up of my Lj account, because that's something I should have done a long time ago, and for the foreseeable future it will just run in the background, parallel with my Lj account.

I'm dizzojay over there too, and I'm happy to connect there with as many of my f/list as possible!

I agree with you about the TOS stuff. I've actually had a DW account since 2011 so I could still write entries that cross posted to LJ when LJ was down for like a week or something. I'm the same name on there, so if you come across me, feel free to friend, since I forgot how to lol. And I can't go and do anything on there anyway until my dad ships me a newish laptop (seriously... three in less than a year?!).

Also I felt a little cross as I couldn't get into LJ yesterday until clicking on the 'accept' button for these new TOS. Our dear milly_gal made a post to that theme too, yesterday and I'm grateful that there were some nice and patient fellow users who explained the subject to the clueless ones like me.

This way I read that paid account users [like moi] are not affected by this new rules - if I got it right - and am seconding you in not start to panic immediately but take a breath instead.

So thank you for this post of yours, m'dear - especially for that enchanting gif of the unbeatable Hottie #1!!

I'm not leaving either but will be using DW as a backup until either LJ folds completely or as you say becomes to risky to warrant staying here.

I'm with you. LJ isn't the place it was when I got mine many years ago, but tbh I don't think having the Russian Federation controlling LJ is significantly worse than Trump's America.

I've locked my journal (and will keep it locked until things settle down), but I am not leaving LJ. This is my first fandom home. This will not be the first storm I have weathered. I may come out dinged and a bit jumpy, but I will survive.
