It's a Dizzo Christmas!

It's been a slow start to Christmas for me this year thanks to the fact that I managed to pick up a winter lurgy just in time for the big day.

Off sick from work and in bed by 8.30 pm yesterday, I was a festering petrie dish of sneezing and coughing, and I woke up this morning feeling like death warmed over; didn't even surface until nearly 11 am.  Anyway, a nice strong coffee, a couple of aspirins and our traditional Christmas breakfast of cheese on toast, not to mention opening all my lovely presents, made me feel ready to rejoin the human race as a functioning adult again, and so here I am!

I've already had so much fabulous shiny from my lovely F-listies, and it continued today with something so, so special from [livejournal.com profile] sasha_dragon (thank you so much, your gift will be making an appearance later!!)

Also, a lovely giftie from [livejournal.com profile] alexisjane which was very sweet, thank you!

We've just cleared up after a delicious dinner, cooked by Mr D - yes, I know, I'm thoroughly spoilt - this is Mr D's first Christmas as a vegetarian, and so we had nut roast which we both really enjoyed! (I don't think Mini-Dean was very impressed though.)

Now I'm chilling out with a nice glass of New Zealand's finest, listening to the new ELO album (courtesy of Mr D who is currently sitting at the dining table building a lego model of Darth Vader), and eyeing up a chocolate santa whose days are seriously numbered.

I hope everyone else is enjoying a day filled with good food, good company, love and smiles.

Merry Christmas xx

Have you turned veggie too? Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today, what a time to get struck down, huh? Typical!

[identity profile] dizzojay.livejournal.com 2015-12-26 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't turned veggie officially, although I am trying to eat a lot less meat so that we don't have to keep cooking two meals. My one big handicap to being a vagetarian is that I really don't particularly like vegetables! I eat them because I know it's the right thing to do but I can't honestly say, however nicely they're cooked or prepared, that I ever really enjoy them.

That is a bit of a drawback! I suppose you cold always stock up on the quorn meat substitutes - we have a lot of things like quorn chicken pieces and veggie sausages, and you can even get pretend bacon, though I don't bother with that because I was never that keen o it to start with.

Sadly, I join you in the lurgy :-( here's to us both feeling better ASAP!

What is nut roast? Are you a vegetarian too?

I giggled about the fate of the chocolate santa ;-)

Happy day!!

[identity profile] dizzojay.livejournal.com 2015-12-26 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, sorry to hear you've been visited by the Lurgy elf too, hope you can shake it off really soon x

I'm not a vegetarian, although I find that being married to one, I eat a lot less meat, so I'm working towards it. Our nut roast was almost like a meatloaf except that it was made of cashews, pistachios, and almonds all bound together with mushrooms and squash. It came with a port and cranberry sauce and was delicious!

And yes, poor Chocolate santa gave his life for a very worthwhile cause!

I know, we're a right pair aren't we? We're going through a Star Wars binge-watch at the moment, ready to go and see 'The Force Awakens'!

I'm getting better, thank you, but still feel muzzy-headed and weary from coughing!

Ali is my superstar at the moment - Charlie, Charlie, Charlie!!!

Enjoy the film honey :D

Thank you, yes, getting there!

What a rotten start to Christmas for you with a lurgy, but I'm pleased the cheese on toast, coffee and aspirin helped! It sounds like you had a lovely day, I meant to ask you if Mr D was still veggie! I had veggie sausages with my roast - Sam had chicken and pigs-in-blankets!

Chocolate is a well-known cure for lurgy, so you need that choccy Santa!

[identity profile] dizzojay.livejournal.com 2015-12-26 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, Mr D is still vegetarian, and I find that helps me eat less meat too.

I haven't found a brand of meat substitute sausage I like yet, I'm sure there must be one out there - I'm not THAT fussy!

Santa certainly went a small way toward helping me feel better :)

Some of the meat-free sausages are just nasty! The best ones are by Cauldron foods, we get them from Waitrose and they are very tasty - in fact we're having sausage & mash tonight!

We did, thank you ♥ she's been healing and recovering very well (and quickly) from her mastectomy. Radiation therapy and other deep tissue heat therapy starts in January so fingers crossed she gets through that as well too. Thanks for asking, bb ♥♥

Poor you! Ahh the lurgy, we've got it in our house as well. Steve keeled over with it on Tuesday, and I didn't see much of him until Christmas morning when he staggered downstairs looking like death warmed over.

Your Christmas dinner sounded delicious, as the only veggie in our house life can be a bit difficult but I manage to get by.

I'm so glad you liked your present, and I look forward to seeing what kind of mischief she and the other minis get up to.

[identity profile] dizzojay.livejournal.com 2015-12-28 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah poor Steve, I feel his pain!
Charlie was a fabulous addition to the mini-clan, I'm sure she will create a much higher class of mayhem than the other little plebs :)
