I never understood what her purpose was. TBH, i thought she was some kind of figment of Sam's imagination following losing Dean. There were a number of indicators for that. I was, to put it mildly, astonished when it actually turned out that she was real. I'd love to know whose idea she was, so I can mail them a fish or something.
