Whoops!

Aside from reading the brilliant words of the delightful Bill Bryson, and drinking a good proportion of the New Zeaaland gross national product, one other constructive thing I've done today is write a little Christmas fic.

Inspired by my recent scribblings for Team Humbug in the Holiday Drabble Challenge over on [livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel , here it is ...

WHOOPS!

Genre: Humour

Characters: Sam and Dean

It's a Winchester Christmas; surely everything will go to plan, won't it? )

It's been a lovely Christmas day here in the Dizzo household, peaceful and beautifully unplanned with no requirement to be anywhere or with anyone.

We started off with a very welcome lie-in and didn't surface until after 9.30, then it was straight downstairs to have breakfast and open our gifts.

I got lots of gorgeous Supernatural loot, some money and a great camera; that'll come in really handy for the cons - I've just got to learn how to use it.  I must have been a very good girl this year - either that, or Santa has really lowered his standards recently!

It was mid afternoon, while I was sitting on the couch reading 'The Road to Little Dribbling' by Bill Bryson, when Mr D started cooking dinner - how lucky am I to be married to a man who's a great cook?  Although, having said he's a great cook, his traditional Christmas dinner did turn into a high protein low carb Christmas dinner when he forgot to cook the potatoes!!!  Yes, there they all are.  Still sitting in the fridge, exactly where they were this morning ...

Duh!

So potatoes, or lack thereof, aside, I have eaten enough to feed a siege, and we have continued our Star Wars marathon (currently on to Return of the Jedi).  There has also been wine.  Lots of wine!

So before I head off for one last glass, here are some gift-wrapped boys for you.  Now be careful when you unwrap them.  They bruise easily!

Wishing each and every one of you everything that's good this holiday season and beyond xx

What sort of Supernatural fan would I be if I didn't ...

Just wanted to pass on my thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] fireheart13 for the sweet V-giftie!

Of course, it was sent yesterday, but because I really wasn't firing on all cylinders, I somehow managed to miss a whole bunch of emails as I was going through them!

I know you've had a visitation from Santa Lurgy, just  like me - I hope you're feeling heaps better now xx
dizzojay: (Dean)
It's been a slow start to Christmas for me this year thanks to the fact that I managed to pick up a winter lurgy just in time for the big day.

Off sick from work and in bed by 8.30 pm yesterday, I was a festering petrie dish of sneezing and coughing, and I woke up this morning feeling like death warmed over; didn't even surface until nearly 11 am.  Anyway, a nice strong coffee, a couple of aspirins and our traditional Christmas breakfast of cheese on toast, not to mention opening all my lovely presents, made me feel ready to rejoin the human race as a functioning adult again, and so here I am!

I've already had so much fabulous shiny from my lovely F-listies, and it continued today with something so, so special from [livejournal.com profile] sasha_dragon (thank you so much, your gift will be making an appearance later!!)

Also, a lovely giftie from [livejournal.com profile] alexisjane which was very sweet, thank you!

We've just cleared up after a delicious dinner, cooked by Mr D - yes, I know, I'm thoroughly spoilt - this is Mr D's first Christmas as a vegetarian, and so we had nut roast which we both really enjoyed! (I don't think Mini-Dean was very impressed though.)

Now I'm chilling out with a nice glass of New Zealand's finest, listening to the new ELO album (courtesy of Mr D who is currently sitting at the dining table building a lego model of Darth Vader), and eyeing up a chocolate santa whose days are seriously numbered.

I hope everyone else is enjoying a day filled with good food, good company, love and smiles.

Merry Christmas xx

Every year my office has a little Christmas 'do' about a week before Christmas which traditionally includes a Christmas jumper competition, and this year is no different.

I have always made rather than bought my Christmas jumper; and so, here is this year's effort:

(When I say 'made' I don't mean I knitted the jumper - I can't knit for toffee!  I just made the picture on it.)

It's been a difficult year at my work, but I'm not going to let crap that I can't control stop me from doing something I enjoy, so there!  I've won the competition for the last two years, so will this year be the hat-trick?

I'm very happy with how nice our tree looks:

And then there's our 'other' tree ... )

Well, you've seen the artwork, but here's the story.  Written for Crowley's Covert Christmas Fic Exchange over on spn_bigpretzel.

This story came from this great prompt by sameuspegasus :

'Cas goes Christmas shopping, (point of view of a shop assistant trying to help him buy Dean the perfect gift).'

amberdreams asked now Crowley's been reunited with his Mum, they can celebrate Hogmanay together for the first time for a good few centuries. How do you think that will go?

Well, family socials normally involve a degree of awkwardness, and here you have a family that consists of an unctious, egotistical asshole and a witch with a mammoth chip on her shoulder and the morals of  tomcat.  I can foresee fireworks - and not the sparkly kind.

If there is going to be any first-footing going on, I think it might be Rowena's foot up Crowley's arse!

wings128 said, tell us about a book that has stayed with, one that you go to for rereads, one whose characters kept you thinking about them, long after your first read.

Yes, I do have such a book, and it's Watership Down.

I've always been fond of rabbits and I had several pet ones through my childhood and into my early adulthood, and the fact that Watership Down was a book where the central characters were rabbits was what initally attracted me to it.

But the first time I read it, I was completely enchanted.  It is so beautifully written, painting gorgeous pictures of the English countryside, and the characters are perfectly written, each in their own way strong and resourceful but overwhelmingly vulnerable, just as rabbits are.

It tells a story that perfectly fits the rigid society in which rabbits exist, with a beautiful folklore threaded all the way through it, giving the rabbits a faith and a belief system which gives their story even more depth and colour.

Of course, mankind plays a part, and it's not a good part, but it's just one of the many battles that the heroes have to face before they can find their peace.

It's a wonderful book and I've never been without a copy of it ever since that first reading.  I'd recommend it to anyone!

Thanks for playing x
